He is clearly ahead of Durrant and Adams for me.

Lloyd is an interesting one. He didn't beat Taylor in either of his Major wins and would never have been World Number 1 under the current system. I'd have him a few places below Harrington.
Would Harrington have been number 1 under the current system?
To me it doesn’t matter who you beat in the finals, you can only beat who is in front of you. It’s an unfair stick some have beaten Wade with.
I think it was Mardle who said the standard of darts in the 1970s wasn’t great and to be fair he is right. Yes Rees won a unified title, but only a handful of those players around that time were really good. It was probably in the 1980s when the standard really picked up.
As for the poll, why no Dave Whitcombe?? He won 2 Masters and he had 2 runners up at the worlds when Bristow, Lowe and Jockey were in their pomp. I would put him above Lloyd and Harrington.

Captain Hobo wrote: Mon Nov 09, 2020 9:37 am I didn't really watch much of Lakeside until about 2013, so saw very little of Adams wins. However the fields certainly had more depth than Duzza's.

The version of MvG that Duzza has beaten is nothing compared to Taylor so I really don't think that is relevant.

Even with the PL win, I think you can make a case Adams is still ahead of Duzza in overall career achievements.

I voted Cross the last 2 times and would have him and Harrington at least ahead of both of them, maybe even Rees as well.
1. The 2010/2011 Lakeside fields were not much better than the the fields Duzza beat later in the decade. Dean Winstanley made the final in 2011, Jan Dekker made a semi-final in 2010, and Martin Phillips made the semi final in both 2010 and 2011. Chizzy was relatively inexperienced when he made the final in 2010.

2. Agreed about Taylor, but Duzza has already had more success against MVG in major events than Adams did against RVB.

3. Putting titles and achievements aside, I think Duzza is a better player now than Adams was in his prime.

Nah.

I loathe RVB, but he did beat Taylor in the 2007 World final. As did Part in 2003.

Those performances carry more weight than Adams' performances in the 3 Lakeside finals he won. And Duzza' for that matter.

Durrant ahead of Cross? Strange one. Even if some like to discredit the old players, this is a pretty much like for like comparison. Cross won 3 majors including Worlds and Matchplay. Anyway, this was always going to throw up some strange results so I'm not complaining. All part of the fun. I don't think you can objectively compare all of Cross, Durrant, Thornton, Harrington. Lloyd, Rees. Very different eras.
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

Most of those voting for Duzza and Adams are probably on the wind-up.

I doubt it, again I just think it's too much to ask to compare all of these players

At this point it might as well become a favorites poll.

If I understand that correctly, we'll be voting on all the matches right? So there's no element of luck involved? Should be the same 8 players at the business end then.

It wouldn’t have mattered what version of Chizzy got to the final, he would still lose. He is another who it seems cannot get over the line.
If him and Bullyboy play a major final it’s a good bet to say it goes to a last leg decider they both end up on madhouse with numerous match darts missed a piece.

Different opinions to yours doesn’t make them wrong though. Again look at all time lists in darts and Adams whether you agree or not does feature.
