Would Harrington have been number 1 under the current system?Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 10:24 am Rees made 2 Finals and won 1 Unified World Championship.
He is clearly ahead of Durrant and Adams for me.
Lloyd is an interesting one. He didn't beat Taylor in either of his Major wins and would never have been World Number 1 under the current system. I'd have him a few places below Harrington.
To me it doesn’t matter who you beat in the finals, you can only beat who is in front of you. It’s an unfair stick some have beaten Wade with.
I think it was Mardle who said the standard of darts in the 1970s wasn’t great and to be fair he is right. Yes Rees won a unified title, but only a handful of those players around that time were really good. It was probably in the 1980s when the standard really picked up.
As for the poll, why no Dave Whitcombe?? He won 2 Masters and he had 2 runners up at the worlds when Bristow, Lowe and Jockey were in their pomp. I would put him above Lloyd and Harrington.
