15-18 was his absolute peak i'd say yes but he won the PL, runner up in World Champs and the Grand Slam all in 2011, topped OOM and won Players Champ finals in 2014.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 3:31 amWhat is Prime Gary though? 2015-2018? As Price has improved Gary has gotten old, injured and semi-retired. Prime Gary would more than handle any of Price's antics because he'd just smash him off the board.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 2:50 amThat is completely pointless. Until the last 2 years Price was a pretty average player.SuperSwede wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 12:43 am I love Bristow but I think there is a lot of assumption that his career would have maintained the same trajectory it was on if it weren't for the dartitis but that's an unknown and he used to say himself his competition wasn't up to much.
Gary Anderson has won what he has won in the crossover of periods of dominance of both Taylor and MVG who I say are the two best of all-time.
(plus he has a winning record against Price despite having been in basically semi-retirement mode or injured for the last two years)
It's 4-2 to Price in the last 2 years, but that is also too small a sample size to attach much meaning.
Taylor pretty much had a 50-50 record against Wright in his last two years and slightly the worse of it against MVG, you wouldn't and couldn't use that as the basis for saying he couldn't handle them.
Bristow was at the very top for a lot longer than that and won 5 World Titles, even before getting Dartitis.
I think it's fair to say Gary has periods of disinterest but turns up when the stakes are highest more often than not.
For 6 years in the World Champs he either won it (2 wins, 2 finals) or lost to Taylor (once) or MVG (3 times) this in an era against what basically 99% would put as 2 of the 3 best players of all time. His 2011 final defeat was a great game against Lewis who was at that time the best in the world.
Bristow won his 5 World Champs over a period of 7 years while admittedly making 10 finals in 12 years but I would say had none of the 4 best of all time in his field for the first what 10 of those years.
I mean I think it's close, they're definitely 3 and 4 for me in whatever order. I lean to Gary because of the depth of fields and that 4-5 year period where I think he was the best in the world more often than not while have the two GOAT 's in his midst. And probably natural when close to lean to the one that you have seen more of live to be honest.

Until the 2014 PC Finals he had never won a PDC Ranking Major. His PL win and the 2 Cross code events in 2007 were impressive but by 2013 he was in awful form. Shouldn't have been picked for the PL that year and he wouldn't have even been in the discussion for the Top 10 of all time.
He's done well since then but well enough to go past Bristow? No way.

Correct. And being Scottish would play right into Eric's hands. I can imagine Anderson even refusing to play Bristow on the big stage. That's the extent of the anger and anxiety I see EB shaking him with.Randall wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 7:57 pmGando cant cope with priceWolflanternbumbag wrote: ↑Wed Oct 28, 2020 7:54 pm Gary Anderson has more talent than Bristow, but Bristow was a better competitor, more bottle etc.

Ach ahm no playin im, no way
Or something. I don't like this aspect of the game but in Anderson's case it would be a laugh to see exactly how badly he and his psychotic fan club handle it.

The PL was a hell of a lot of money for him at that time and he is lazy and can't be arsed most of the time so not surprised he had a dip after it. If every event had the prizepool of the World Champs I think for a good 5-6 year period Gary and MVG would have split 85%+ of them.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 5:58 am Until the 2014 PC Finals he had never won a PDC Ranking Major. I think Bristow would have had much the same attitude as Gary if he was in the modern game with the money involved he'd have sacked off a hell of a lot of events and turned up for the big cheques.

Surely you concede Anderson was competing against better quality? Like I said for 6 years he either won the World's or lost to Taylor or MVG who are I would say the two GOAT.Randall wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 7:20 amTrajectory?SuperSwede wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 12:43 am I love Bristow but I think there is a lot of assumption that his career would have maintained the same trajectory it was on if it weren't for the dartitis but that's an unknown and he used to say himself his competition wasn't up to much.

Anderson has played in a tougher era than what Bristow did, that’s not to say I think he is better. I put Bristow at 3rd but have no problem with people seeing him as second. The reality is there were a handful of top players during Bristows pomp. There are far more today.

So you think Gando got lazy after 1 decent payday, but if every tournament had more money he'd have been more motivated to win them all? OK.SuperSwede wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 4:26 pm The PL was a hell of a lot of money for him at that time and he is lazy and can't be arsed most of the time so not surprised he had a dip after it. I disagree. Think in the most recent era there have been 4 of the best 8/9 of all time while Bristow was 1 of 2 in his.Randall wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 4:36 pmThe depth might be greater now but at the top end the elite then are just as good as nowSuperSwede wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 4:33 pmSurely you concede Anderson was competing against better quality? Yes he went from the BDO to within what 18 months banking PL winner's money, World's runner up money and Grand Slam runner up money. That must be equivalent to what he'd have earned over another 10 years if he stayed where he was. Had a quiet 18 months after that, no doubt blew some of it, got a new Mrs and a second? kid and then was the best in the world more often that not for the next 6 years.Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 10:56 pmSo you think Gando got lazy after 1 decent payday, but if every tournament had more money he'd have been more motivated to win them all? Also 6 years is rather generous as he hasn't been anywhere near the best in the world since losing the Grand Slam final to Price.

That I agree with, that is the end of the six years i'm suggesting. He is the only player that lived with prime MVG in my eyes (bad timing for Taylor in decline)Captain Hobo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 6:00 am Also 6 years is rather generous as he hasn't been anywhere near the best in the world since losing the Grand Slam final to Price.
