Anyone think that IF (and it's a big if) Smith can hang with him, that MvG MIGHT buckle? He's done so a few times this year, and he'll probably have the crowd against him. It can be considered a much bigger game for him, really it's win or bust, whereas for Smith maybe you could say it's a bit of a free hit?

Wright v Whitlock you say. I don't remember that at all! I'd have wanted Whitlock to win, pretty sure.

The bookies made Whitlock the favourite to beat Wright, despite Wright's great form in the tournament. Wright beat Whitlock. Whitlock reached his career high ranking of world number 3 at that time, with Whitlock defending his 2012 semi final result and Lewis' defeat to van Gerwen in the other semi final (while defending his 2012 winners' prize money) saw Lewis briefly drop below Whitlock.

Taylor vs. Cross last year was just what I wanted in the final (2/2).

Smith to have any chance needs a very good start,if you put early pressure on Gerwen with heavy scoring and good finishing he can wilt,that is the only way and also punish him when he has quiet spells.If Smith is not at the races like Ando last night he will be 0-3 down before he knows anything.

Michael Smith has a good chance to win if he lives up to his nickname tonight and comes to the stage with the intention of playing unbelievably well for 13 sets, and doesn't let up, giving him the chance to overpower a nervous van Gerwen. Rob Cross had a similar mentality against Phil Taylor last year, knowing that he had to bully Phil by playing unbelievably well.

However, my prediction is 7-3 to Michael van Gerwen. I think Smith will go off the boil at some point, whether out of nerves at the start or in mid-match after missing a crucial double chance.
