Possibly the most surprised I've ever been by a darts result. Which seems a very odd thing to say from here, but the boy Lewis' record against Taylor at the time was atrocious. Taylor slapped him about for lols, and had seemed impossible to beat at all for over 2 years.

Remember their 2010 World Championship quarter final? Lewis averaged over 100 again (as he had during the tournament), yet Taylor beat him 5-0. In the early rounds of the 2010 World Grand Prix, Taylor looked more dominant than ever and had won 21 of the last 24 TV tournaments. Taylor survived a big scare in the quarter finals when Gary Anderson played at his best for 5 sets, but Taylor came from behind to win 4-3.

In regards to Lewis at that time of the 2010 World Grand Prix, he seemed nowhere near Taylor's standard compared to the 2010 World Championship. The logic at the time was that Taylor either lost in the first round of the World Grand Prix or won the whole tournament. Over the long haul, Taylor was not going to lose. Taylor went up 4-2 against Lewis, and even when Lewis got it back to 4-4, Taylor won the first two legs of the final set and narrowly missed a 120 checkout by the tinniest of margins that would have won the match. Taylor also missed a match dart at the bull in the next leg. Taylor was then slow to start in the final leg, and Lewis had beaten him.

Taylor then proceeded to lose something like 6 more times before the year was over.

A very important moment as it buried that version of Taylor forever.

Not quite gone forever, but the unbelievably long dominance of March 2008 - October 2010 where he won around 60 tournaments out of 70 odd played was over. This dominant Taylor made a reappearance from July to November 2011, after Paul Nicholson claimed that he would put him to bed if he didn't bring his A game. The 2011 Grand Slam victory is the greatest of all of Taylor's Grand Slam of Darts wins, the way he destroyed Nicholson, Lewis and Anderson was breathtaking. But then, Taylor couldn't carry this success on into the 2012 World Championship, whereas in the past he would have done after such a dominant Grand Slam win.

And 2013 was a last year of old vintage, consistent Taylor on TV. Look what he won that year, World Championship, UK Open, World Matchplay, Sydney Darts Masters, World Grand Prix, The Masters, the Grand Slam of Darts. The 2013 Players Championship final was when things changed, with van Gerwen taking over as the dominant player. But Taylor still had excellent moments in 2014 too, the World Matchplay demolition of van Gerwen and the Grand Slam win (although not as convincing as normal, as he struggled to close out a few matches).

After the handshake at the end, Lewis did a little finger point at him to say my time cunt. That was 9th October 2010 and he won his first TV title on 3rd January, which happened to be a world title.

Lewis wasn't happy with Taylor for something that happened during the match. Taylor seemed to imply that Lewis had gone into the exclusion zone or something when he (Taylor) was under pressure late in the match. Taylor usually speaks to the TV interviewer after a tough defeat, but he refused to that time after Lewis beat him.

And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life

Simon Whitlock last year, on the cusp of defeat against Alan Norris in a deciding set, pulling off 16 perfect darts (180, 150, then a 10 darter starting from D16) to clinch it.

The way Warriner went off after the first leg here remains completely nuts.



If the first leg hadn't been mince he would have averaged north of 110, which would be getting close to unbeatable. Still expect this record to stand for many years yet.

The stand out memories for me are the Taylor v part finals, probably as good as Taylor ever played.
Also the year Lewis beat Taylor in the semi the night after a breathtaking Taylor/Gando game.
