Possibly so.

However, the Durrant game demonstrated that he has the ability to take his game up a notch. We can only speculate that he was coasting against the rest.
Either way for the purpose of this thread he wins because it is universal shit being thrown back.
When you take into account the opposing averages and the boards they were thrown on there can't possibly have been an easier route to a major title. Part in 94 is the other obvious front runner but those boards were much more challenging as we know. Waites' other title win was shite as well (along with most Lakesides since Barney left) but 2013 was the worst. As i said earlier I don't think I've seen a worse televised darts match than that final against O'Shea. Anyone who sat through it all (I couldn't quite manage it) must have been on suicide watch afterwards.

the 1979 run as highlighted earlier was brutal butan 85 average then is nigh on a 100 now.
i dont expect to find anything worse than waites but with the idl being very long format i expect to find some stinkers.

how long did the idl run for, does anybody know?

Someone argued recently that Adams was coasting when he won Lakeside 2011.

What they ignored was that Adams was run close by Walton, Phillips and Deano. If he was coasting, then these games would have been more one-sided. Why would Adams make a meal out of things when he had the option not to?

But based on the average average of the players defeated by the eventual champion, this is probably the easiest route to a world title (although Tony Brown played better than any of Waites opponents).

Doug McCarthy (71.73)
Jocky Wilson (78.18)
Tony Brown (88.17)
Leighton Rees (76.62)
Compare the board to 2012 and these are better performances than waites faced, as shit as they are, possibly.
And didn't have to face Richie Fucking George. The BBC were desperate for him to win it.

just for fanny
taylors 1995 world title

Gerald Verrier (79.93) group
Sean Downs (84.39) group

Bob Anderson (84.45)
John Lowe (90.84)
Rod Harrington (87.15)

not the greatest but he did have to beat two world champions and harrington was no mug.
factor in the boards as well, it doesnt top waites in 2012.

He cruised to that title. Won it with a swagger but clearly having to deal with very little coming back at him. That 2014 event is interesting to look back on as so many of the players involved have since switched, including all four semi-finalists.

Just as an aside, he averaged 100 in the win v Prins, which is the only 100+ average at the piss palace in the last 10 years. Exclamation mark.

While the 2008 PDC World Championship was an odd tournament, Part was the best player of that tournament, with Painter second. Part beat Painter 6-2 in the semis.

It's plain queer. Glen mocking the dinner plate bull in his local rag last Jan was rofls. One of almost a thousand official tdf judged Lakeside Howlers, no less.
