So by that logic do we bomb Taliban controlled Afghanistan? it would save countless lives?Darth Randall wrote:the bombing of japan while shocking was to save allied lives, a horrible scale to balance but the japenese would have fought to the bitter end and and costs horrendous amounts of our troops lives. how you weigh that with japenese civilians i dont know.nikkiboy wrote:The us are the only country to have used nuclear weapons against people.Darth Randall wrote:us is the only country that has what nikki?
are the iraqi people better of without their own leader slaughtering tens/hundreds of thousands every year?
not seen the docu sprocket but heard about her, a sick woman craving attention.
When the Russians invaded Afghanistan the USA supplied the weapons to the taliban to fight them, similarly they armed saddam Hussain in Iraq when he was a friend of the administration.
Obviously any government who kills their own people is to be berated and changed if possible but what about rwanda, Zimbabwe or darfur? My question is why do we only "help" nations who have something the west wants, usually oil.
Please do not confuse my abhorrence at USA and UK foreign policy as having a dig at the armed forces, they are sent wherever governments decide they should go and do a job that I could not even imagine the difficulties of and I have nothing but admiration for them.
i hear you re arming and them opposing them but times and administrations change and so do circumstances.
i absolutely agree re rwanda etc, but still believe the action to remove saddam was just, just a shame they pick and choose which nations to deal with so obviously.
How anyone can justify the mass bombing of civilians is beyond me, hundreds of thousands of people were killed or as a result endured birth defects or premature death because of those bombs, the fact is it saved AMERICAN lives which is something the americans are good at, is an american life worth more than that of an Afghan or Japanese one? We hear daily about the lives lost in the twin towers but nothing about the civilians killed in Afghanistan in a war they neither started nor wanted. One of the justifications for invading Afghanistan was that they were harbouring Bin Laden, strange he was found in Pakistan and yet what action has been taken against Pakistan? - zip. Billions of dollars are spent each and every day by so called "civilised" countries on bombs and bullets to kill people yet hundreds of innocent children die each day because they have no food or water, what a fucked up world we live in.
Before anyone jumps back in saying we need to do this to protect ourselves from the devils who threaten our way of life, I do understand this but in doing so we are destroying more lives than we are seeking to protect
