For the record Eric would've eaten MVG alive mentally. He was the master of it, and working a crowd.
Not averaging 50 he won't!
I just find the dismissal of MVG to be casual. We should go lightly, that's all I'm saying. MVG's peak, assuming we've seen it, was sensational, and Bristow loved him.

The boards, etc are drastically different between the eras they competed in.
I think someone did a statistical analysis years ago, can't remember now. Anyway, you're correct it's the Ali Vs Tyson debate. You can't match era's I suppose so we've only opinion..and that of course is debatable.

We probably can't even answer this yet but I wonder which of them was closest to their peak for the longest. Or which of them was most Taylor-like for the longest.

We may have to wait a few years yet to answer that, or maybe not. You never know.

83 to 86 appears to be Bristow's peak. Between Lakeside 83 and 86 he won 8 out of 13 major BDO events. The latter stages of 85 Lakeside appears to be the time where he was "unplayable".
MVG's peak was 2015-2018 IIRC. Sadly Darts Database is offline so I can't list his yearly averages. I'm mostly drawing from memory.

Yeah 83/86 were the magic years. But throughout the 80's he was there or thereabouts in big events.

1984 World title
Finn Jensen 2-0 (91.50)
Rick Ney 4-0 (94.50)
Peter Locke 5-0 (95.70)
John Lowe 5-0 (93.60)
Dave Whitcombe 7-1 (97.50)
Average around 96 on those boards is amazing and only 1 set lost

There must be some winners that are top 10.
The legendary Stefan Lord won it twice.

That's not the version Uncle Randall is ever interested in. Yet he's quite interested in the shit versions of MVG.
That's an alternative way to build the all-time list: whose worst was least bad? Oh let's not. I've got to get out of here.
Eric's game being ruined by dartitis is somewhat different to mvg falling in a heap when someone puts it up to him
Well that's life. We all get ruined by something.
And there is the MVG assessment in a nutshell. A lemon who fell apart two nights ago.
Mentally mvg isn't on a par with Taylor or Bristow.
I'm not denying it. I'm just interested in assessing things fairly because people (inc. me!) are generally all over the place.
Are all three players at the absolute peak of their powers in your statement?
Absolutely
Disregard mentality briefly
Just consider the numbers
97 would have been very competitive at the Worlds this year
Then stop and think Bristow did that on boards half the size
Taylor could do 100 over distance double in on boards far more difficult
Whatever sky tell you the game isn't at its highest level ever
