When you put it like that... but I was older by then and there was less magic in the world. Plus the 03 final was the first time I'd even seen Taylor lose and it was just so great.

Taylor got so much stick for not being reigning world champion. That's probably the main reason why the 2004 final against Painter took so much out of Taylor, to the extent that he retired for 4 days. Van Gerwen gets let off by comparison when he's not reigning world champion. The Circus Tavern World Championships felt more in your face and personal, somehow. Less of a factory floor feel.
