Re: 1st January 2023
So, we've reached this date, haven't played the world final, but other than the placing of MvG and Smith, our top 10 is set
MvG/Smith
Wright
Smith/MvG
Price
Humphries
Cross
Clayton
Noppert
Aspinall
Wade
I don't think anyone would have expected Wade to still be knocking around, but here he is, surely about to drop soon. Aspinall I believe had just won his first PC title at this stage, quickly exploded after that with some spectacular results before settling into the top 10. Noppert was a genius pick by me if I may say so, I thought he'd settle around the 16 mark but even aside from his UK Open win, he's had a good year. Clayton was talented, if a bit of a jobber at the time, don't think anyone would have expected him to become one of the best in the world, if anything I think that ranking might be a little low for the talent he's shown over the last two years. Cross has proven to be more than a one-hit wonder, although hasn't been a consistent threat, particularly at the Worlds where he's yet to challenge since his big win. Humphries was almost a complete unknown at the time, I believe he was leading the Development Tour at the time, well done to him on a fine rise to #5 in the world! Price had just had a horror Premier League, but it was all about to kick off for him spectacularly...if only Gando hadn't thrown the toys out of the pram! Wright did what I never thought he'd do and beat MvG in a final, the biggest final of all to boot, and repeated the feat 2 years later, but if anything he's probably underachieved as he really threatened to dominate at times, it wouldn't surprise me if he drops a bit next year. Didn't think it would take Smith this long to win a big TV title, but he has now, and there's just one final piece of the jigsaw left for him tomorrow...
MvG won his 3rd world title not long after this, had a really ropey few years, but has come back with a vengeance...world title number 4 tomorrow?

Wadeys longevity is to be admired. I wouldn't rule him out yet.

Re: 1st January 2023
As I say, my Noppy pick was inspired, but a lot of spectacular misses too! Cadby looked every bit a future superstar for about a month, but could never kick the legal troubles, I'm not expecting the world from him now. I was really confident de Zwaan would become an absolute superstar, but after some injury problems and some tentative green shoots of recovery this year he's back to Q-School where I expect he'll win his card back again with ease, but let's see. Hopp...I don't know what happened to him, maybe the pressure of being the poster boy of German darts got to him, because although he was never as good as they were hoping, had won a Euro Tour and a Players Championship title, and was a dart away from the final of the Euros, but he's sunk and I doubt we'll see him back, immediately at least (the irony is now Clemens and to a lesser extent Schindler are looking really promising). Gurney has surprised me, he's still pretty young and looked like he'd stick around the top 10, he had talent and no shortage of bottle, but if anything he looks in danger of falling out of the top 32. Dimitri has fallen out of the top 10, although he was in after his Matchplay win, I'd have taken that for him at that stage and maybe he would have too

An inspired Noppy pick indeed gentle and I have faith that Lord Jeffrey will still make it.

The Swan was 23rd seed at the Worlds two years ago but his true ceiling is 17 times world champion.
