And is it a coincidence that Adams starts winning BDO majors soon after Raymond van Barneveld has moved to the PDC?
He benefitted greatly from the defections of Thornton, Webster and Anderson too.
Out of his 6 BDO majors, only 2 were won before those three players left.
Adams has won 8 BDO majors, you forgot the classic Zuiderduin Masters. He won that twice prior to the players mentioned left. He won that event in 1996 and 2000
Depends on whether you classify that event as a BDO major.
I only classified the Worlds and the Masters as BDO majors. Possibly the World Trophy in later years.

1999 Scania Open?

The BDO classed it as a major. Ive never seen that event ever, but wasn’t the top prize something like €5000. ?Doesn’t seem a lot for a so called darting major.

It was also unranked when Adams won it.

Aye. And before that, in early 2007, departures of King, van Gerwen, Klaasen and van der Voort.
Thornton left the BDO around May 2008, so even earlier than the other names you mention, along with Stompe going to the PDC a few weeks after Thornton. Thornton left after reaching the quarter finals of the 2008 Welsh Open, while watching PDC players getting more money for worse performances at the 2008 US Open. It was Whitlock who left around the same time as Webster and Anderson, in early 2009.

Bingo
Adams beat Taylor somewhere else, too. During the 2001 World Matchplay, where Taylor and Adams met in the semi finals, they kept saying that Adams had won 2 of his 3 matches against Taylor. Taylor beat Adams 2-1 in legs at the 1997 News of the World, in the semis, which was their first meeting, and was televised. Their other TV meetings saw Taylor win 17-9 in legs in the 2001 World Matchplay semis, and 7-2 in sets in the 2006 World Darts Trophy final.

It was pretty big when it was the Doeland Grand Masters (2001-2004 time), but I don't remember it being big other than that while the International Darts League and World Darts Trophy were still running, certainly not in the 1990s.

I forgot about King.
And aye, Thornton switched in mid-2008. Whitlock in early 2009. My mistake.
It was really between RVB's switch in early 2006 and Webster/Anderson's defections in 09 that the BDO lost the war for the professional side of the game.

I suspect they were just wrong
Oche claims that Adams beat Taylor in the early 90s while both were still in the BDO.

From 2009/10 How many BDO players that came through after that would be classed as very good and could ( and have) cut it in the PDC?
Off the top of my head, I can think of
Waites
Bunting
Duzza

Btw, while all of those players certainly belong in the PDC's top 32, none of them were top 5 material.

Hankey might have made a success of it had he switched in 2010, instead of leaving it another 2 years. The best time for him to have switched would have been earlier though, perhaps as far back as the Skol Six defections in late 2001, although no 2009 Lakeside had he done that. Switching earlier, when the schedule was less demanding, would have enabled him to slowly adapt, or fall by the wayside.
