How much......
Is the lack of crowds influencing 2020 results?
Clearly to the viewer it makes toss all difference, but the players?
Would dimi really have won under normal circumstances?
Would dulla have won at the 02?
Can mvg get al really not get motivated?

Yes

Well, he's a crowd player. Who knows.
Would dulla have won at the 02?
Had a great first week after covid which helped him into the play-offs. Doubt what the crowd would have done to him.

MvG has to blame himself. It's not like he can't throw well on PC's.

Re: How much......
It's a convenient excuse when you lose, for sure.
The whole situation is throwing up some weird results, but how much is down to no crowd, I'm not sure.
It's only a few weeks ago Price was complaining about the fake boos, but then he won 2 Tournaments so it can't have really affected him.

Re: How much......
I was just thinking exactly that
Would the boo boys have put him off?
It's a sterile arena with no distractions
Surely the standard should be high but we just witnessed an horrendous pl final night.
Its weird

I'd say it's more the "neutral" locations messing with players' heads than the lack of crowd, but yes it is playing a part all the same.

Re: How much......
The tournaments have absolutely no identity for sure
A slam final is exactly the same as a summer series final
You would think you could get motivated for 250k but it certainly didn't happen for wright and gando last night

They should have discriminating chants against the players playing on the tape they're playing.

Re: How much......
It probably does make a difference, but in what way? We can't tell and there's no point guessing. Agree with Hobo that it's not an excuse. If 250k and the PL title isn't enough motivation for you to turn up, blame yourself. Durrant, Dimi and the others will be happy picking up the paycheck. There will be no asterisks whatsoever next to these events, these are regular titles.

Re: How much......
Will there be astericks next to a world championship played in an empty room in Coventry though?
I suspect there will if hendo etc wins.
Please god let it happen.

Re: How much......
Not in my opinion. Certainly can't judge based on who wins. So if it's one of the favourites then it's a regular event, but if not then it's suddenly less valid? That would be very unfair.
Exceptional circumstances happen all the time. This might be the first time for a darts WC but hardly the first in the history of sports. The players have to adapt and if Hendo does that the best then he will be world champ. Just as much of a world champ as Wright or Cross.

I suspect in the future the issues surrounding the events are certain to be involved in the discussion of the outcome. The Thorn wrote: ↑Fri Oct 16, 2020 11:04 amNot in my opinion. Re: How much......
I never paid much attention to would and should haves. Discussing what could have been after the outcome is already known just seems a bit pointless. Regardless of the circumstances. If the Premier League final was played again in the exact same conditions, Durrant wouldn't be more likely to win it than any of the other 3. If you "simulated" the event again, even without changing any of the surrounding issues, he'd still be a slight underdog against Ando and an underdog against whoever came through the other semi.

It's an interesting discussion point though.
This plays into the hands of the the likes of white but thank fuck history hasn't gone that route.

White has secretly been one of the best players in the world but 50% doesn't know that because he's shit on TV and the other 50% doesn't want to admit it because he's shit on TV
