"A Jewish rabbinical court has sentenced to death by stoning a stray dog which it believes is the reincarnation of a lawyer that insulted its judges two decades ago.

The large dog entered the Jerusalem financial court several weeks ago scaring judges and plaintiffs, according to Israeli website Ynet.

Several efforts were made to drive the dog out of the premises but it refused to leave.

One of the sitting judges recalled a curse that had been passed down upon a secular lawyer who had insulted the judges 20 years ago.

One of the judges at the court in the city's ultra-Orthodox Mea Shearim neighbourhood had reportedly asked local children to carry out the sentence.

An animal welfare organisation has filed a complaint with police against a court official, who denied reports that judges had ordered the dog's stoning.

The dog has said to have escaped before the sentence could be carried out"
