Thomas Vermaelen could be heading for the exit door at the Emirates this summer for a cut price £5 million.

Vermaelen was given the captains armband after Robin Van Persie departed for Manchester United, but has since been out of form and third choice behind Per Merstesacker and Laurent Koscienly.

The Daily Mail suggests that although the Belgian is keen to stay in north London, he needs to play regularly to keep his World Cup dreams alive and will move on if he doesn’t get much playing time.

They also suggest that Barcelona are monitoring his situation and could move for him

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has revealed that he hopes to move to Liverpool this summer, as speculation continues to surround the future of current Anfield shot-stopper Pepe Reina.

Begovic has performed excellently this season, and was an integral part of a Potters defence that only conceded five goals in 12 games during November and December - though trailed off in the second half of the year.

Stoke are already prepared for the exit of the Bosnian shot-stopper, having signed Jack Butland from Birmingham in January, and Begovic seems sure that a switch to Liverpool will materialise.

He told the Bosnian media: “I want to start preparing on July 10, with all the players of Liverpool”, as quoted by The Telegraph.

The 25-year-old was signed by Tony Pulis from Portsmouth for £3 million in 2010, and won Stoke's Player of the Year award this season.

His consistent performances have won him admirers at the Premier League's biggest clubs, and there has been reported interest from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal throughout the course of the season.

With Begovic angling for a move to Anfield, he could be set to replace Reina; the Spanish goalkeeper admits he would not be against a move back to Barcelona, though remains coy on the links.

"Rumours are difficult to control but it's flattering when a club like Barca are interested in you," he told Cadena Ser.

"I don't know if there has been contact between the clubs or with my agent. At the moment I don't think there's anything serious."

FORMER WIGAN defender Maynor Figueroa may be Hull City-bound after his proposed move to West Ham was thrown into doubt following the Hammers signing of Razvan Rat.

West Ham announced the free transfer of Ukrainian left-back Rat yesterday, which diminished Figueroa's chances of securing a summer switch to Upton Park given they share the same specialist position.

But Hull manager Steve Bruce is plotting a swoop for the out-of-contract Figueroa, who is available on a free transfer after leading the Wigan exodus along with Antolin Alcaraz, Ronnie Stam, Albert Crusat and Franco Di Santo.

Bruce hopes to convince the 30-year-old Honduran to trade Greater Manchester for East Yorkshire having managed him during their time together at the DW Stadium.

Sunderland defender Titus Bramble has said goodbye to the club's fans as he gets set to follow in David Beckham's footsteps.

The former Newcastle man is out of contract on July 1 and has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer.

Bramble is reportedly one of the players that has fallen foul of Paolo Di Canio's strict new regime at the Stadium of Light but he appears to be leaving on good terms.

Bramble told his Twitter followers: "The NE [North East] is a special place to play and will always be close to my heart. I wish the club and my team-mates all the best for the future.

"I've had a great three years and would like to thank every SAFC fan for the support they have shown."

Stoke have Butland, so it was obvious that Begovic was going elsewhere

Reina has not been at his best last couple of seasons so Begovic would be a step up IMO.

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas and could snap him up for just €7m this summer, according to the Mirror.

The 25-year-old forward has enjoyed a productive campaign in Spain – scoring 11 goals and providing 6 assists – but his efforts have been unable to prevent Celta Vigo from sinking to the foot of the La Liga table. Defeat this weekend away at Valladolid could see Celta’s relegation confirmed, which will be good news for Liverpool.

The Mirror claim Aspas – who has been linked with Chelsea, Swansea and Reading in recent months – has a €10m release clause written into his contract but that figure will fall to €7 if Celta drop out of the top flight.

The newspaper suggests Liverpool are set to take advantage of his decreased buy out clause with Brendan Rodgers understood to be in talks with the player over a move to the Premier League and has offered him £45,000-a-week to move to Anfield.

Aspas is a pacey attacker who’s capable of playing anywhere across the front-line so his versatility would be a useful asset to Rodgers as the Northern Irishman looks to add to his attacking options ahead of next season.

West Ham and Fulham are believed to be among the clubs alerted by news that Aston Villa will sell striker Darren Bent this summer and take a considerable hit in the pocket.

The 29-year-old is the Villans record signing but has fallen out of favour under manager Paul Lambert and is set to be sold off for far less than the £18million the west Midlands side paid Sunderland for him.

The Birmingham Mail today confirmed that the forward will be allowed to leave despite having two years on his current deal.

Liverpool appear top the list but West Ham could make a bid if their endeavours to sign Andy Carroll from the Reds comes to nothing.

Fulham, Hull and Cardiff have also been linked for the Tooting-born hitman who has also played for Charlton and Tottenham
