2000 to 2003 i was in and around the 17-19 dart leg, all day every day. My finishing was world class, scoring was very average. I stop playing due to 3rd child being born.
In 2005 i made a bit of a comeback, made a few names worry for about months then lost all interest due to getting a bit of abuse locally when out with family about a league game i had won the week before. It just wasnt worth that.
Came back again a year later, gave the pdc a rattle, went to scotland, got beat 3 sets to nil by dave honey, and then on the sunday 5-3 by jamie robinson, i ad 5 x 180s in that match and 144 and 132 out shots, he was just awesome. (he makes his england debut in a few weeks)
packed in again, just no interest once i lost over there. Went to the world play offs, hadnt thrown a dart in weeks and lost to ray farrell in a very good game.
Packed in again.
Went to the 4th IPC of 2009, just to meet a few mates, got to the last 8, losing to denis mac carthy, that day i beat mac gowan 5-2, mac cracken 5-1 and garrett grey 5-4 in what was described by the few watching as the best game they had seen in years. Qualified for the IPC finals that yr, didnt bother to practice, won my first game 5-0 again brian doheny, lost 5-4 to campbell jackson and mick egan. Packed in again for a few months
Then went to the Q school last yr, zero practice, and lost 6-4 6-4 6-1, and then collapsed in a heap. From drink
I suppose iv the game to do ok, but i dont have the drive these young lads have. It kills the fun, i see Lurgans mates come down from the north and they are world class players, but are to serious, same as a few in the south, i cant travel with these lads, just no enjoyment in it for me.
Best league average best of 5 is legs of (14,16,16) best county (12,14) Against Jamie robinson i done 3 legs sub 15 on my own throw to win my legs, he broke me in 11, with me on 41 after 12 darts in the other leg!!!!
I think one day i might come back and give it 100%, that day is very soon.
