I can remember England winning a test series out there in almost pitch black conditions with Nasser Hussain.

Yeah, the Pakistanis were time wasting hoping it'd be called off, but the umpires effectively told them it's their own fault they're playing in the dark. I remember fielders going the wrong way when Thorpe and Hussain were knocking the last few off. Eleven bloody years ago now!

He was a fucking joke as captain. Only won two tests, but was lucky that they were both Ashes tests against a pisspoor, rebel tour affected Strayan team.

No, mate, Gooch was back over a year before Gatting took over. He captained a team with Gooch, Gower, Lamb, Botham, Dilley and Broad at their peak, which wasn't a West Indies beater, but should have beaten India, New Zealand, etc.

Yeah, England's greatest wicket taker, two of our top three runscorers and some talented players, but all they really did was beat Australia repeatedly. Having said that, I'd have coped if that had continued :)
