Is the bubble going to burst anytime soon

Post by Dicie » Wed May 11, 2011 4:13 pm

Pro tour payout near £35k per event, with max entry fee of £12,800

PDC losing on average of £40 grand per weekend there are tour events played, this is not including PDC staff wages, there accom or the hire of the venues and so on.

So, taking it all into account, i wud say easily £45 grand per weekend.

Can this continue, i know the premier league is the golden calf, but is it really taking in that much to cover these loses???

Looking at the PDC's accounts for Jan 2010 they made £900,000 profit after tax for that year. Granted they're now out of date I'd still say the PDC is financially sound.

40k per weekend? Bloody hell. They can't be making that back through the PL can they? How much are tickets? I suppose Sky pay a lot to show it.

I would imagine that the bar pays for the hall.

It is simple, if you want to create an elite tour you need the players to have the opportunity to earn enough out of it, the tour is subsidized by the Premier League, can't see the issue myself to be honest it only becomes a problem if the PL starts losing public support of which there is no chance at the moment

Sponsors have to be taken into account as well.

No sponsors on te floor Luke, they like others are struggling to get them for tv events dontmind floor events.

Nikki, shud a professional company have all its eggs in 1 basket, IE the premier league, cause this is the case at the moment. or are we to agree witht he idea of if it fails we will worry about that then.

I think there's no doubt that if the arse drops out of the PL the Pro Tour's dead in the water mate.

Premier league crowds were up again this year, there were also 5000 more spectators at Ally Pally during the 2011 champs.

As long as the crowds want it the tv should want it, so not anytime soon I would think.

I doubt that the Pro Tour fees could be any more than they are now to be honest. How many would drop out and just play the opens that pay out every weekend?

Then they'd end up dropping down the money list and maybe not get into the big payday tv events.

There's a load of lower ranked players that only make it to the first round at Bolton Sat

I'm talking about those outside the top 64 that would do better money wise away from the Pro Tour Sat
