The second best City break in Europe is…….

Post by HalloweenJack » Wed Jul 24, 2024 12:19 pm

Sheffield ???

https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic ... europe-is/

I’m from Sheffield, Ginge lives there and Captain Hobo is visiting in 2026 I am surprised it’s that high though, although for drinking alone, the pubs around Kelham Island are as good as any. That is a great night out in itself.

Good pubs, decent transport with the trams. Been to Tramlines festival a few times and always had a great time.

Wouldn’t have it top ten, mind.

On the odd time I go out into Sheffield Centre, I use the tram as I live a few miles from the end of the blue line and it’s far easier than driving in and parking up. When I last lived in Sheffield, I always used it.
Did you ever go into the Frog and Parrot on West street, which years ago used to have the worlds strongest beer called ‘Roger and out’ They used to serve it as a 3rd of a pint due to its strength.

Can’t say I recall ever going there, would definitely have popped in if I’d known that!

I remember seeing Steve Davis djing somewhere and Public Service Broadcasting who were absolutely outstanding the first year we went.

I only had Roger and out once and i don’t recall the card system. It would have been the 90s though. I actually didn’t like it but had to finish it.

Can’t say I’ve had the pleasure of Burslem :D

Coventry isn’t much worse than Milton Keynes for me. Bratislava is pretty grim too.
