The best PDC Affiliated Competition

Post by oche balboa » Tue Apr 16, 2024 8:54 am

There are a number of them and some have been running with a good deal of success for a number of years now

But what do you think is the best one currently in terms of Players, Prize Money and how well run the events are when they are played?

A vote and a debate ;)

Not including Challenge, Development & Womens Series has they are Secondary tours

It's the CDC Tour, and quite comfortably at the moment, nowhere else has there been such a reliable pool of players come over and be competitive, sometimes even those who aren't in the top 2/3 on the tour and therefore making the big TV events can come over to Europe and win a tour card and even be competitive in the case of van Dongen (who has never qualified for any big TV events via the CDC) and Jeff Smith (who won his card off the back and qualified for the Worlds via the ProTour after a year when he missed the Worlds). The DPA was the best a few years ago, but it seems to have declined, obviously Heta is on the main tour, Raymond Smith seems to have disappeared (health problems?), and even Penhall has retired now too

Personally think the Nordic & Baltic is the best ran with the CDC and Asian Tour not far behind.

In terms of player development the CDC probably has the most consistent level of player.

I do think Asia will get there however in a few year. The Nordic and Baltic desperately need some younger talent to come through only really Drue Reus,Tingstrom and Ostlund look to any standard at the min.

The DPA and DPNZ are ran terribly as we've seen documented online. Sadly nothing ever seems to change.

I voted Asia for the following reasons

- Most amount of different host countries and different players involved

- Season ending Asia Championship

- Good standard with a mix of older and younger players who are competitive at Ally Pally over the years- Perez, Ilagan, Man Lok Leung, Muramatsu, Asada, Goto, Lim etc.

- Provided four different tour card holders over the years- Perez, Muramatsu, Kai Fan Leung and Royden Lam

- Bounced back really well after being decimated by Covid

+1 to all that. There is a enjoyable buzz about Asia for sure.

At each weekend there seems to be somebody whose name I don't recognise who will win back to back games with high 80s/low 90s kind of levels. The back end of the events can resemble the Challenge Tour.

My nicest memory of the last Worlds is of Goto and especially Leung (that is aside from the ascent of various Lukes and God Egg saving me from Anderson).

It's pretty close between CDC and the Asian Tour, but for me the Asian Tour is just ahead, although most of the players are unproven at a higher level

A shout out too for the fun spirit of the Next-Gen tour where you get prize money for big scores/checkouts etc. That's a nice model for an entry level tour.

saw the poll and immediately voted for the CDC tour choice.
didn't realize that I may have to explain my reasoning with so called "words".

am hoping that my opening debate argument of a simple hand gesture consisting of flicking the back of my fingers under my chin will cut the mustard or at least allow me to buy more time if pressed.

No love for Aus and NZ tours. :(

I mean fair enough really. But it's a shame that the Australia situation seems so uninspiring given it's a country with a fairly attractive history at the top end of darts.

CDC has the best top end. Asia (if everyone turns up to play) has by far the best strength in depth.

Wont happen but a 6 nations style continental team championship would be fun. Africa and South America aside the rest could put up competitive 6 man sides.

Europe
Asia
North America
South America
Oceania
Africa
Team Corvid 2025 consists of the following 12 players.

Clayton, Littler, Gilding, De Sousa, Wright, Evans, Campbell, Scutt, Lauby, Rob Owen, Patrick Geeraets and Justin Hood.
