Nobody would disagree with the second sentence. I’m also not too keen on how he has come across as well.

Quite a few believe that MVG is better than Taylor.

An argument that I have never agreed with.

And I wasn't having Bristow anywhere near the top 5, nor anyone else from pre-Taylor in my top ten. Yet because popular opinion disagrees with me, I must be trolling or being deliberately provocative to incite people.

Of course my original account was banned. As I recall MH asked why people stopped posting on TDF, I answered the question genuinely and he didn't like it. Randall didn't actually press the button, but this was at a time where Gaz was saying the most outrageously ridiculous opinions while Randall and others questioned nothing. We were getting nonsense like Adams wouldn't have been as good as Painter, Mardle, Beaton etc, and endless posts about James Wade gaining £500 on the player above him in the Order of Merit.

To this day people construe "Taylor wouldn't have been a 16 time world champion in a unified field" as "which BDO finalist would have beaten him". It probably wouldn't have been the final where he lost, it would have been the tougher matches in the first few rounds which caught him out. Hankey might have won in 2000, or Fordham in 2004, but they'd probably have needed someone on the level of Mark Webster, Chizzy, 2014 Michael Smith or Mardle to catch him in the first couple of rounds. If you think that doesn't happen a few times between 1994 and 2007, you're deluded.

Obviously there's an anti-BDO slant to this poll, but I think more of a fundamental difference is that I value longevity and consistency far higher than most. There would certainly be no other sport where a player had a six or seven year career at the top, and was regarded better than someone who did it for twenty years, even if the former player was slightly better at their peak.

For the record I am not pro BDO over the PDC, I prefer the PDC as it has the better players, but I’m not of the opinion that because someone has played in the BDO then they are bound to be rubbish. Even the main BDO haters can’t tell me the PDC was superior late 90s to mid 2000s
I try to put a different viewpoint to stimulate debate yet some just see it as a red rag to a bull and it is very amusing.

That’s the beauty of this forum, lots of different opinions personalities which is healthy for debate and banter but i do think some people get too involved and affected by what is said on here. There are far more important things to worry about in the big bad world.
Saying all that though 15th for Thornton I bet the man himself wouldn’t rank himself as high as that.

Of course, Taylor would have won fewer titles in a unified field. The general argument over the previous few pages is that he would have probably beaten every BDO Champion head to head over a long format. Those arguments are not strawman arguments because at some point or another, as I underlined, it has been argued that Walton, Wallace, Ted, etc would have beaten Taylor.

If anybody gives anybody from the BDO even a whiff of faint praise they are deemed a mushroom a jestful name admittedly but some people need to stop thinking their viewpoint is right and that everybody else’s argument can be flushed down the crapper.
