I think a lot of the Dobey hype has come from PDC pros and pundits themselves rather than us. Anytime you see an interview where anyone from Gando's stable (Smith, White etc) or more experienced pros (Lewis, Whitlock, Durrant etc) where they're asked who will be a future world champion and who they want to do well, the answer is always Chris Dobey (after Michael Smith) will be world champion.

It's not that he's a shit player but he's always hoisted up as the best of the future when he's not yet won a PDC title and is in absolutely appalling form by his own admission. He showed potential last year but sacked off the tour to go to Vegas before lockdown and hasn't really recovered since. He's a very good player and can be a great player but he won't be World Champion, world number one contender, in my opinion.
