I disagree with using the main rankings but Rogg has a point too. Imagine the arguments here if he had to put all the players 1-32 into the 4 pots. I'd be happy with just the 8 seeds based on major wins and the rest of the pots based on rankings.
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

Another point that needs to be mentioned here:
The Grand Slam is probably one of the best designed tournaments out there because it consists for 75% of players who are known to be able to win stuff. This is probably the tightest competition there is in darts.
