Re: The darts forum definitive all time top 32-18th place poll
Thornton should have been ranked above Adams.
When Thornton left the BDO in June of 2008, he had a 1 BDO major to his name, the exact same amount as Adams had at that point in time. Head to head, the pair had 1 win a piece against the other. Adams edged out Thornton 5 sets to 4 in sets at the 2008 BDO Worlds, whereas Thornton beat Adams 3 sets to 1 at the 2007 BDO Masters.
After Thornton joined the PDC, Anderson and Webster soon followed. It was only then that Adams won the bulk of his titles in the BDO, usually against fields full of has-beens, journeymen and inexperienced players. Meanwhile, Thornton won 2 major titles in the PDC, beating Phil Taylor in the final of the 2012 UK Open, and MVG in the final of the 2015 Grand Prix. He also had to beat Mark Webster, Gary Anderson, and a prime version of Wes Newton just to reach the final of the 2012 UK Open.
Therefore, it is quite clear that Thornton achieved more at the highest level of the game, and was probably the better player in general.

Yet Thornton is never seen on any polls for top players. Adams is. So in your mind, all these polls have got it wildly wrong ( I assume you think with Barney also)sennafan24 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 6:43 am Thornton should have been ranked above Adams.

Whilst you put you point across well, to include Wes Newton is stretching it a bit.

Newton was a decent player in the early 2010s. Boring as sin, but very solid.HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 8:19 am Yet Thornton is never seen on any polls for top players. Adams is. So in your mind, all these polls have got it wildly wrong ( I assume you think with Barney also)

I could have also mentioned Thornton beating Priestley, who will ancient, did average 94 against him, a very strong average for the standards of the time.
Headshaker deserves to be ranked in the top 10 of all-time. Adams does not.

For what it’s worth I don’t think Adams warrants a top 10 place, what is he in TDF poll, 14th? I Personally think Barney should be higher than G Anderson, but he isn’t on the TDF poll ( he is in any other poll I’ve ever seen bar the one by Chris Mason)sennafan24 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 8:38 amNewton was a decent player in the early 2010s. I cant understand how some people may get a bit worked up by a poll where a player they think should be higher isn’t. People should see it for what it is about 18-23 users voting. Hardly a large proportion of people and at the end of the day it really doesn’t matter.
As for Wes, he is a player that after a short time being a decent player plummeted down the rankings and lost his card. He didn’t even do anything in the BDO to my knowledge in the last few years either.

Yes, but it's a discussion board, where users are invited to share their opinions and state facts to support them.HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 9:03 am I cant understand how some people may get a bit worked up by a poll where a player they think should be higher isn’t. In the grand scheme of things, it makes very little difference to my life whether Adams is rated in the top 10 by many, or in the top 15 on this forum. It's just fun to debate these things.

We are on the same page then. It would be worrying if anything said on this forum affected their lives let alone a poll.sennafan24 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 9:19 amYes, but it's a discussion board, where users are invited to share their opinions and state facts to support them.HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 9:03 am I cant understand how some people may get a bit worked up by a poll where a player they think should be higher isn’t.
