Possibly not.HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 12:46 pm I think if he came over to the PDC 2001 he would have won a big event.
Beaton and Burnett won fuck all in the PDC.
Hankey himself didn't win a major event in the BDO between 2001 and 2009.
It's another case of a BDO player being massively overhyped. Although I did like him as a player. he was very entertaining to watch.

I'll indulge Boy Band Jack on this one.
In all honesty I liked him when he was playing well. I liked the antics, but he looked a right arse when he couldn't back it up. Which was pretty much all the time when he got to the PDC.
Lets be honest Hankey had a brief purple patch or two but he wasn't a long term consistent performer. Winning 2 BDO world titles enshrines him in darting history but he never really tested himself against the best of the best till he was way past his prime so more of a pussy than a fearsome prowler of the oche. The biggest knock on Hankey is he never won the Scania Open.

Re: Ted Hankey
If you look at the BDO world field from 2000 and the PDC from 2001 take Taylor out of the mix there isn’t much between them. Certainly not the huge gulf from when the Split happened and like today.Randall wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:14 pmLet's not let facts get in the way of fantasysennafan24 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 2:08 pmPossibly not.HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 12:46 pm I think if he came over to the PDC 2001 he would have won a big event.

Ted was playing very well in 2000 Taylor didn’t win everything that year, whose to say Ted couldn’t have won a big one??
All subjective and we will never know.

Ted was box office
Loved how he would argue with the crowd, and he only succeeded in putting himself off..
Always thought if he stayed of the stroke liquid, he might have done more, he enjoyed playing the bad guy too much

Taylor won every major PDC event that year. He won the 2000 PDC Worlds, the 2000 PDC Matchplay, the 2000 PDC Grand Prix, and the 2001 PDC Worlds.
Other than his performance in the semi-final of the 2000 BDO Worlds, Hankey didn't average over 95 in any other game on his way to the final. By contrast, Taylor averaged well over the 100 mark in every game he competed in during the 2000 PDC Worlds with the exception of the final, where he averaged 94, which was still higher than what Hankey averaged in the final of the 2000 BDO Worlds
In short, Hankey was never in Taylor's league, even in 2000.

My bad, I thought Warriner won the Grand Prix in 2000 it was the year later.sennafan24 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 9:12 amEh?HalloweenJack wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 4:21 pm Ted was playing very well in 2000 Taylor didn’t win everything that year, whose to say Ted couldn’t have won a big one??

As for averages, wasn’t this the time when the PDC segments were supposedly bigger than the BDO versions ?

Re: Ted Hankey
1. Warriner did indeed win the 2001 PDC Grand Prix. However, I doubt Hankey would have won it had he been in the field. Hankey wasn't winning events in 2001 against fields that didn't contain Taylor in them - https://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/PlayerD ... yerResultsHalloweenJack wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 9:19 am My bad, I thought Warriner won the Grand Prix in 2000 it was the year later.

2. Speculation. And I believe those accusations were made long after 2000.

Re: Ted Hankey
Would Hankey have done more than Mardle had they switched at the same time? That is 2002, I think.
Instinctively it may sound weird but look at what Mardle actually did in the PDC. He outshone several BDO big hitters at the actual top end of the PDC including Beaton and Burnett... and arguably Baxter, can't think now. (not talking longevity here).

Probably very similar.
Perhaps Ted would have won a few more non-TV events.

Re: Ted Hankey
I think Ted has the natural talent and should have won more in his career. His throw is sublime.
I know some on here like to use averages all the time to prove a point and yes they are a guide, but they don’t always win you events. I think Ted was very good for a couple of years and it can be argued that Taylor aside he was better than just about everybody else in the PDC in 2000/01 he was probably better than Barney at that time. Who in the PDC were better?
Taylor obviously
Warriner/ Harrington you could make a case for, but I’d back Ted against them in 2000/01
He switched way too late.

I’ll go onto add if the Premier league was made for any player, it was Ted.
Box office
Controversial
Huge 180 scorer
Imagine Ted playing Gerwyn with Price’s antics

If I could compare Hankey to a current player I would say someone like Adrian Lewis.
Both very naturally talented
Both should have won more than they did
Both temperamental
Both huge 180 scorers
Both could, how shall I say this, look better on stage
