That's before I started watching darts. They must have paid Phil a decent amount to stick around and commentate after losing in the 1st Round.

Wolfie must have been a big favourite for that game, maybe even Outright at that stage?

Proper format back then, too.

Taylor wasn't a bad commentator from what I remember.

He used to commentate on Lakeside occasionally as well IIRC.

Presumably before the split. He'd do anything for a payday.

Nope, during the split.

Around the early 2000s.

Would have been a shock to the viewers who assumed he was dead.

11 sets of double-in with those two. Holy crabcakes. Must have taken all day and/or night. I sort of remember it. Wolfie missed match darts I think. One of those games where the winner never led until they won it.

Was a Quarter Final so would be Best of 5.

According to Wiki all 4 Quarters were played on the same day so must have been 2 sessions.

Using an afternoon session to squish the four QFs into a day. Not sure that would be popular today.

They played the whole Grand Prix in 5 days that year, Wednesday to Sunday.

Rounds 1, 2 and QF all had an afternoon session.

Remember that while romanticising.

You post that thinking it will make me see things your way, and it just makes me miss the old days even more.

I really am getting old.

I first saw PDC Darts in 2003. All we got on TV was 2 hours of highlights a week, months after the event.

Wouldn't have seen any live PDC darts until 2006 when I got a Betfair Account.

All I knew of the BDO at that time was that it was crap, and an Aussie won it once. I didn't even know much about Whitlock until he joined the PDC.

That's an interesting introduction. Being Australian at that time was one of the more creative ways of dodging the mushroom bullet...

But seriously I think we all keep a place in our heart for the earlier stuff. Thinking about best of 11 sets double-in quarter-finals on a Thursday afternoon snaps me out of this one pretty easily but I think fondly of those days at the same time.

He (Taylor) was terrible there and didn't last long if I remember rightly.

Colin Lloyd sounded good (audibly) on comms at the recent Womens Series though I didn't watch enough to get a grasp on the level of his commentary. I imagine it like being a bit of a trip back 15 years or so and how he sees the game being quite outdated.
