The more characters/icons in darts whether you love them or hate them the better I feel

IF and it’s a big if he did returns with a positive attitude and actually enjoys the game I can’t see why he still can’t compete at the top level, not necessarily win titles but could more than hold his own

He comes across as a dick at times but has clearly had mental struggles nothing to do with darts so if he gets himself in a better position in that regard and knuckles down then his talent is undoubted and he could still relatively easily in my eyes be a top 16 player if not higher.

This is probably financially motivated though so there is always the risk he will just be happy to do the minimum to earn x per year to top up the pension fund which as mentioned by others has taken a huge hit with no exhibitions this year.

Last year he made the Worlds quite comfortably without having to attend every event, two years on, will he have enough ability left to be able to skip and choose? Or will he have to grimly go to every last ProTour event?

The latter, which he probably won't do.

Even if he gets a tour card, which he might not do, he will probably lose interest after a few months and stop attending events.

Could definitely see him start, give up, and pin all his hopes on the Benelux qualifier (whatever it's called these days)
