It's capacity is ideal for a week-long event.

Yeah it's been at the same venue for ages, it's the middle of nowhere and the atmosphere is shit. It can stay in Dublin for all I care, but it does need to move away from the CityWest
I see no harm in it being held at the 3arena.

Great venue.
That's probably three times the size of Ally Pally. I don't think a massive arena is the solution for a week-long event, unless they tuck it away in a side room.
It has far less tables than Ally Pally but a barrage of seats around the outside. I thought it was quite small in comparison to other venues I've been to. But it also isn't in the middle of nowhere like the CityWest.
I know nothing but I guess they'd need to fill an unlikely number of those outer seats or the shit atmosphere problem would probably get worse. It isn't a problem for me anyway, but then I usually watch with the volume off, so =D

It's an unsatisfying TV experience for sure but the CityWest numbers clearly work out well for the PDC or they'd have moved on ages ago. That's not something to throw away lightly when you're flogging a full week's worth of some funny game.
Shame really.
This is my favourite event.
This and then the World Cup.

Gonna be at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. I know they've had snooker events there in the past, have any of the BCD events recently been there?

Why on earth would you play a final on a Monday night?

The PDC don't own the world so maybe something to do with the venue, or the broadcasters, I don't know. It's an international football window and it looks like there's no notable football on the Monday so it could be ideal.

No, the BCD have been at MK, the English Institute and the Crucible but Ricoh is a great arena used for one of their flagship events every year not that that's much use here. On-site hotel the obvious ingredient.

See they've stuck with the 8 matches per night for the first couple of nights, they were draining last year i can remember.

Surely durrant goes into this as favourite?
Like him or not, he has been the best player at most all the events but has found someone to lose too.
The double in format surely plays into his hands as well

Certainly one of the favourites. Gurney on d16 is always a good starter and normally does well in this. 1st round is always a minefield. Depends who the qualifiers are

Gurney hasn't really looked at it all year
Mvg is awful
Gando and wright are very up and down
Smith is smith

Beyond aspinall I don't see any other form players.

Wouldn't claim Durrant as favourite, he's one of the guys that can win it but let's not forget he's still not been in a major final. MVG is still going to be the favourite for every event for at least a year. Wright is surely above Durrant, probably Ando and Asp too. Then again it's well possible that someone like Dimitri will come through and mess up all our predictions.
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

Let's just hope he gets in that position very soon.

I don't remember the Matchplay winner losing many games since.

You're always going on about 'form players'. How often does a 'form player' win the thing? Durrant always seems to be 'in form' yet never wins anything. It's about the week.

I suggest you assume less.
Besides, we all know Phil is the GOAT.
