The Diana syndrome........

Another one i dont get is the vigils you now see at the roadside?
I'm sure they diddn't exist 20 years ago....or is it just me?

On the day of Diana's funeral I took my kids out to Richmond Park just to get away from it. They saw the deer, fed the squiralls, had a picnick and played ball etc. The roads were clear as the rest of the country was crying crocodile tears. Fantastic day

I watched Dianas funeral, there is nothing wrong about being shocked by it all

Surely shock is one thing but the public wailing is another. The flower trade had a tremendous boost at the time but what was with all these people crying outside Buck House? None of them knew her and being blunt she wouldn't have given a fuck about them either.

I think people especially older people liked her as she had some sort of likeable factor within the royals, and her death changed them for the better.

Surely the last place you want to hold a vigil is the place where your loved one got run over or, and this is the case near where I live, the bridge they threw themselves off.

Coming off the back of what I've been listening to on Talk Sport, loads of callers expressing grief because Speed's dead I ask why?

None of the callers knew him or were connected in any way but just like Jacko and the worst time of all Diana they're crying into their beer. Again Why?

I've no problem with anyone remembering achievements of people in the public domain like Joe Frazior, and people looking back but why does it go way over the top?

I met Sir God Bobby Robson and his wife Elsie many times and when his death was announced I remembered his achievements, his gaffs and how good they both were to my lad. I didn't lay a wreath outside a football ground and wail.

a good question mate-i think suicide is such a emotive subject, i think everybody knows of somebody who has done it-stiff upper lip applied but heartache for many left behind-speed was someone who the general public could identify with, most lads/men have dreamed of being the footballer /manager, when someone as high profile as speed tops himself it brings out hidden grief many people have bottled away in their life, the media latch onto the mood and this fans the flames of the public outcry , much as in the same way diana and jack went at a young age

my comments on cork forum you are aware of fandarts on the gary speed suicide got me banned.

I was told by admin my jokes were not funny.Yet others who made jokes but had more than 10,000 posts were allowed to say what they wanted.

Irish bitches who never heard of gary speed getting upset by me and telling me that "i had no right to say what i did as i never met him"..the fact they never met me either seems lost on them.

As for the issue of suicide, i live in one of the highest suicide blackspots not just in cork but in Europe.
In the lasy year there has been 3 suicides from hanging less than 100 yards from my own house, and it is a tragic thing but to fawn and cry over someone nobody ever met or knew personally is going too far

i haven' t read that forum in ages jc, i aint a member there but i just skimmed this topic on there the other day and low and behold you were in the thick of the action i stick to my opinion that speeds death just opens up bottled grief for a lot of people, but people shouldn't be on forums if they aren't thick skinned, dark humour will always appear on forums

Gary Speed, a sports manager, takes his own life and recieves a stupendous amount of respect and homage paid to him. A soldier from 5 Rifles was also killed today, half Gary's age, and died whilst serving our country, yet all he receives is a ten second mention on the radio, then the UK forgets about him. It is very sad that Gary Speed died, and my heart goes out to his family, but I hate that we live in a world where the only deaths we concern ourselves with are celebrities, not our heroes.

The time the assholes were grieving over speed who died because of choice, a bunch of guys in the irish sea drowned in a horrible tragedy...did people mourn them, dedicate threads to them, did it make the headlines....nah..fuck them , as they were not celebs.
