Not just 5 different winners, but 8 different finalists. Clearly the Matchplay is the hip new version of the UK Open.

This just highlights how incredible Taylor's achievement in winning 7 successive titles between 2008-2014 was, especially as for most of his victories players like Wade, Lewis, RvB, Anderson were in their prime and also guys like Whitlock, Webster, King were all playing great darts. In fact Taylor reached 9 out of 10 finals between 2008-2017, winning eight of them.

MvG's poor record in this tournament while in his prime is a huge black mark against both his, and other's claims that he is greatest ever.

A bit strange that MvG seems to struggle at this tournament given that matchplay should benefit the top players as opposed to setplay where you can take a bit of a hammering but win the key legs and then the match (I say seems to struggle as Taylor didn't have a great record at the Matchplay initially before eventually making it his personal property)

Dimitri Van den Bergh is only the 7th player from continental Europe to reach a ranking final in the PDC.

To the best of my knowledge, Phil Taylor (2017) and Dimitri Van den Bergh (2020) are the only two players to have won a ranking TV title by defeating three multiple world champions along the way.
