"Everything the PDC do is so professional" Another knife in the mushroom hearts

And both men on the receiving end will still forever (rightfully) cling onto that one battle won while getting their ass handed to them during the war.

Spot on that.SuperSwede wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 1:11 amHis own worst enemy, needs to sort his head out. Matters a lot more for Barney than for Wright. With Wright, none of the many defeats mattered because he got that one world championship. For Barney, it wasn't supposed to be about one world championship- he was meant to come over and knock Taylor off his perch. Turned out he just inspired Taylor to new heights.SuperSwede wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 3:23 pmAnd both men on the receiving end will still forever (rightfully) cling onto that one battle won while getting their ass handed to them during the war.
And I think that's the mentality that ruined Barney, I don't think it was realistic he was going to consistently match Taylor. If he had just accepted his place behind one of the most relentless winners sport has ever seen he would in my mind without doubt have won at least another maybe a couple of World Championships and probably hoovered up another close to double digits majors Wade style once Taylor had gone out to someone else.whereisman wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 8:06 pmMatters a lot more for Barney than for Wright. I really think he would benefit from a sports psychologist. I believe if he wins one major, more will follow.
Surely he must have people around him who have said the same??
Given taylor battered him in 1999 and the x code events in between he must have know what was coming.SuperSwede wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 3:45 amAnd I think that's the mentality that ruined Barney, I don't think it was realistic he was going to consistently match Taylor. "It's a great start, I beat an amazing player tonight on one of the biggest occasions of my career," said Durrant, who will face Challenger Fallon Sherrock in Nottingham on Night Two.
"Michael makes the game look effortless and I didn't mean to upset his rhythm with my slower play.
"I was very nervous today, even from early this morning but I had a lovely phone call from my wife before I played and that really helped me.
"Three years ago I was watching the Premier League on a tiny TV at a club in Stockton - people were saying to me 'you could be playing in this one day Glen' and now I'm here - it's an amazing story.
"My only target for this year's Premier League is not to finish last and make sure I make it past Judgement Night."
But he did ok against Taylor when he came over, and that raised expectations as well. If he did nothing in the first year, the idea he was coming over to knock Taylor off the top would have quickly gone away... Barney's head shaking lack of belief in himself the first time something doesn't go right coupled with a sense that he should be better than everyone else seems to have been reincarnated in the shape of Michael Smith.
I like the fact that he's pretty realistic about his game and it's a mentality that's seen him do better than his actual talent level so far.Rogg wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 10:19 am Duzza and Liverpool, Premier League leaders. I would agree with that.Randall wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 12:59 pmTaylor had been in decline 2004-2007whereisman wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 12:48 pmBut he did ok against Taylor when he came over, and that raised expectations as well. By his own standards.
He was winning but not hitting the heights.
Barney coming over was just the kick he needed
Don't know if it's a false memory, but I feel like I remember him doing it when he couldn't believe that he was losing to Painter at the 2008 worlds.Rogg wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 1:01 pmA question to anyone, here.whereisman wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 12:48 pmBut he did ok against Taylor when he came over, and that raised expectations as well. Was that head-shaking lack of belief in himself already a known Barney trait before Taylor started sinking fangs into him? I don't remember his BDO adventures in any kind of detail but I do remember him seeming smooth, chilled and cheerful throughout 2006.
