The 2020 Unibet Premier League will feature nine 'Challengers' in a return to the successful format of the 2019 tournament.
Following Gary Anderson’s withdrawal ahead of the 2019 Premier League, nine players were introduced to compete as ‘Contenders’ for the first time in the tournament's history alongside the nine stars competing in the league phase.
The nine players who made their Premier League debuts as Contenders were made up of stars of the future and local favourites, resulting in a series of memorable nights across Europe.
This format will return in 2020, with nine players competing under the re-branded 'Challengers' banner for the first nine weeks of the competition.
Points won by Challengers will not count towards the league table, however their opponents will retain any points gained from the matches.
Challengers will receive financial bonuses for winning or drawing their matches.
Following the opening nine nights of fixtures, the player placed ninth on the Premier League table following Judgement Night in Rotterdam on March 26 will be eliminated from the competition.
The remaining eight players will then battle it out from Nights Ten to 16 in the race to win places in the Play-Offs at The O2 on Thursday May 21.
The nine big-name competitors in the 2020 Unibet Premier League will be announced on New Year’s Day following the conclusion of the World Championship final, with the top four from the PDC Order of Merit joined by five wildcard selections.
The nine Challengers will then be confirmed during early January.

Re: Premier League 2020
Hope they pick some different players but at the same time you can't really pick 9. There are up and coming players such as Hughes, De Sousa, Ratajski but they aren't too young, not sure if the PDC would want them. Not too many new youngsters on the scene compared to last year.
As for the main field, every underdog at the Worlds is out so we can kind of make our mind up. Top 6 and Aspinall are nailed on to be in. I'd say it's Chizzy, Gurney and Durrant for the last 2 spots. On merit I'd drop Gurney but he's the highest ranked of the 3 though.

Re: Premier League 2020
He's been awful this year, don't want him anywhere near the Premier League. He's the kind of player who's ranking really doesn't reflect his form, can take a while for the old farts to slide down the rankings, he'll start tumbling down next year for sureCinnamon Bun wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 11:30 pm After what happened last year I want Whitlock to at least be a challenger

Cammy to get his Tour Card at Q-School and be chosen for Night 1 in Aberdeen. He'd go even more mental than usual.

There were some incredible reactions last year. Who was it on here who managed to decide to boycott all the contender games?

Re: Premier League 2020
Tbf, I loved it last year, seeing all those young guns (and Hendo) going toe to toe with more experienced oppo, with nothing to lose and plenty to gain, it was fun despite the fact that none of them picked up a win. In danger of going stale here though, with Aspinall and probably Duzza 'graduating', there haven't been many new players who have reached that contender bracket (Evans perhaps? Clemens/Ratajski type would be nice, but unlikely for various reasons). Be a bit lame to have to cheer for the same hopefuls a year on
