Looking more and more likely that Mensur wont be there, which is a travesty given we know snakeshite will be there.

I don't see Mensur being there either. Seems to have lost his form, certainly in the big events. Wright is still more deserving of a place than him in fairness.

Yeah in fairness to Wright there was that month or so just before the Matchplay where Wright was on absolutely shit-hot form. Won two non-ranking TV events as well, if that means anything

Yeah,forgot about that! Provisional world #2 in January, has a bit of a cushion over #5 so he'll be there barring a disaster

I agree and it's what made me look up his ranking earlier. He's been shit the majority of the year.

Funny, he had one of his best results all year with an injured leg, yet has done almost fuck all for the rest of the year while healthy

I wouldn't say he is overrated as his talent is undoubted but i think he has had better runs in big events than his play has merited. In all his deep runs a lot of things have fallen his way rather than him blowing through fields.

I think if given even money odds there are 10 or more players i'd happily take against him.

He did have a smoother path to the finals of the Worlds and the Matchplay than anticipated, although did play very well when the supposed underdogs (Aspinall would have come under this at the time) took the game to him. He's had a very strange time of it recently, some excellent runs, but absolutely fuck all else apart from it

On current form, possibly. I didn't even mention the Worlds final but that's another point, even though it'll be a distant memory at the time of the selection. At the very least, it proves that Smith is considered one of the top players. He's hardly a Whitlock who fluked his way through to a major final last year.
