Re: The BDO Appreciation Society - Sponsored by Zeyes
A neat summary of the meeting. The bit in red is just staggering.
So everything I can gather
- Nearly £200,000 lost on the last 2 WDT events.
- Sports Direct didnt pay anything towards the event, despite delegates being told "sponsors were covering prize funds"
- 2017 Masters lost them £80,000. That must mean the prize fund wasnt covered by Winmau
- They have no venue for the 2018 masters, Bridlington is unavailable and the 2nd choice (Rotherham apparently) fell through
- They couldnt confirm any TV for the WDT
- They couldnt confirm if C4 was renewing the Worlds deal, despite delegates being told previously it would be signed in February
- Delegates were told the BDO had a deal in place with Frank Warren, only for it to fall through
- They couldnt confirm if the worlds would still be at lakeside
- A group of county delegates tried to back the Williams and said all of the above was someone trying to personally attack the williams and it was out of order.
From a previous meeting but worth mentioning
- Premier Sports (and thus Freesports) wont deal with the current board
- There was a deal in place with the owner of the Preston hall but he also wont deal with the current board.

Re: The BDO Appreciation Society - Sponsored by Zeyes
So basically they spent £80,000 by giving the sponsorship rights to Winmau for free last year because the alternative would have been losing face if the Winmau association had ended? Wow.The Ginge Reaper wrote:- 2017 Masters lost them £80,000. That must mean the prize fund wasnt covered by Winmau
I did used to wonder why Winmau was still dumping money into the BDO, but I guess that means they've wised up recently as well. Considering they were the BDO's second-biggest source of outside revenue next to the Lakeside broadcaster...

Yup, I bet Winmau throw in the dartboards for free and that is the sum total of their input, but I believe they do that anyway for all BDO events.Zeyes wrote:So basically they spent £80,000 by giving the sponsorship rights to Winmau for free last year because the alternative would have been losing face if the Winmau association had ended? When your doing last minute deals for TV and sponsors, chances are they are deals of desperation so they are going to be shit.
So it looks like basically what we all had a sense of has been confirmed. Will be interesting how the white knights of mushrooms will spin this.
I use to think BDO had two marketable events, ok the value had dropped off bit still thought they had lakeside and masters to make a few quid. Not anymore. Thought Frank Warren would be interesting fit to see what he could do. Plus, the whole Hearn Warren fued was going to bring some fun to it all. So Frank didn't least long, about half an event.
The list of people that won't do business with the current BDO is long. They always could try North Korea hear they are desperate too. Look forward to hearing that shouty lady who anchors the Korean news proclaim the great leader has secured a deal for the world championship and broadcast rights. North Korea home of world darts.. Cause no one else will have us.
They have plenty of luxury hotels completely empty. I can see the jacklins taking an event there too. Prison camp open fun for the whole family. Bring a dog for massive discount on package deal. Two dogs extended family stays for free.

I've read this 2 or 3 times. I still don't get it.The Ginge Reaper wrote:A group of county delegates tried to back the Williams and said all of the above was someone trying to personally attack the williams and it was out of order.
What would they prefer? For it to be all swept under the rug?

Apparently actual factual evidence regarding the disastrous way the organisation has been ran by the Williams equates to personal insults.sennafan24 wrote:I've read this 2 or 3 times. It's probably the good old "they tried their best, how can you fault them for that?" attitude that has been with the BDO for decades now. Family, and all that.Fiss Plaps wrote:Apparently actual factual evidence regarding the disastrous way the organisation has been ran by the Williams equates to personal insults.

Edit: And with some county delegates it might also simply be advanced senility.

Howard gets many more things right than wrong and he's spot on again.
I remember talking to him a few years back and suggested he actually had a go at getting on the BDO board as he's straight down the line and knows they should stop trying to copy the PDC, that ship has long sailed.
The BDO has a purpose, or two if you count the endless entertainment they provide, all for the wrong reasons of course. Howard has a great understanding and would play to the strengths whist a few strengths remain.
He told me to fuck off!

It's pretty much common knowledge that to get a seat on the BDO board a candidate must be a brain transplant donor but even then who on this planet believes moving from Lakeside is a step forward?sennafan24 wrote:So the BDO are largely at CH4 and Potter's mercy right?

Hoping Hamilton, Newton, Roy and Winstanley get through the qualifier. That conveyor belt's a fucking funny shape if you ask me.

I thought the BDO had scrapped the qualifier after that horror show from Mark Oosterhuis 3 years ago.

I got confused with the GSoD for some reason.
But that would be funny.

Reading that the delegates were told that they decided to go ahead with losing £79,800 on the WDT last year so they didn't have to pay corporation tax on it (which wouldn't have been £20k).
Words truly fail.
