Because the same thing will happen as always: they will scramble around and then out will probably come the chequebook to pay for some.
Premier or Frontrunner? Can't see Free Sports on the Sky guide

So it's pool one from three and they'll be up against the Official darts World Cup. Then add the elongated format will cost a shitload

Widmayer will not be there. Interesting as a few weeks ago he was proclaiming the honor of being invited to this shower of shit. Guessing that the BDO isn't ponying up any cash for travel expenses. With the decrease in the payouts he would have found it hard to make it worthwhile to do the travel and pay his expenses. Again interesting as he also has been praising his sponsors recently. Add to that he didn't bother having a go at the CDC first weekend either. Goes to show you how important these BDO majors are....worthless in case you haven't gotten the clue.

De Vos might be fucking off altogether, only played the Dutch Open since Lakeside.
Veenstra played a few others and even won the Scottish Open

I know the prize money is shit and the event is a disgrace but still, if you can't be bothered to play, what's the point? The other events are even worse, at least the GSOD place should be an incentive to play.

Personally thought De Vos had potential and should have given the PDC a go. Would be sad if he packed it in however if you can't even be arsed to turn up at a few events, there's really no reason to play on.

Top Lad getting no punishment for running off to Q-School whatsoever yet Dazzler has been ostracised to extinction.

Agree with Thorn about De Vos and Veenstra, but if they turn up at Halle 39 next January (or wherever they're holding the Euro Q-School) then good for them to have finally seen the light. Unlike Sparky...

And Dazzler tried to step in and be the go to player for moaning in the whole "new era" fiasco. Nothing like loyalty.

De Vos and Veenstra will both be 37 when the next q-school comes around. Bit alarming. Dimitri and De Zwaan, anybody?

Blimey, I didn't realise they were both nearly 40. :?

Even looking at that draw list there's very few real youngsters. Reynolds of course turned down a Tour Card a few years back, Telnekes isn't that experienced, and the likes of Mandigers, Baetens and Unterbuchner are pushing 30.

Such is the PDC setup now, particularly in its emphasis on youth and with so many exciting players on the fringes, that it's a struggle to see even the most interesting proper darts lads as something special or remarkable at all.

But even putting that to one side, this year's wdt field is exceptionally dull imo, even compared to last year.

ADDED, link to last year's field: http://www.dartsdatabase.co.uk/EventRes ... tKey=11283
...still the qualifier to come but that's Noppert, Hughes, Menzies, Smith, De Vos, Veenstra, Fitton, Adams and Fordham gone.

And it's happened awfully quick, too. Reynolds turning down the tour card a year and a half ago was seen as a fairly big miss for the PDC, but the other young players have really turned it up since then - if the same thing was to happen after this year (a Dev Tour player rejecting a card), I think the consensus would be "meh, he'd have just been one among two dozen young talents anyway". Of course, Reynolds himself has hardly managed to be a testimonial for continuing to learn your craft outside the PDC system since then...

Said it on a forum somewhere maybe three years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if the days of darts careers lasting into players' late 40s or even 50s won't be with us much longer. Obviously all-time great talents will probably still be able to make it work (same as in other sports - if your top level was very high, you can survive through a longer decline phase), but fringy top 16 or top 32 players might have to get accustomed to finding a different job once they're hitting their 40s. (Can anyone see Bunting still being around in ten years when he's 43?)

Anyway, for me the only real interest in the World Trophy is whether or not the non-lifers like Machin, Warren, McKinstry or Unterbuchner can show up the regular inmates of the BDO asylum again.

So Veenstra fucked the Trophy off because of a party in his village. Makes sense to be fair.

Just seen it. The bottom line is BDO majors are increasingly becoming worthless to overseas players
