That legends league thing they did on Setanta a decade ago was a decent bit of fun I suppose, but the legends are now ten years older, and there's pretty slim pickings from the newer "legends" as our resident dictator has ably demonstrated.

John Walton
John Part
Richie Davies
Andy Fordham.

I couldn't see this selling tbh.

I dunno. A fool and his money are easily parted.

Piss lake spot on. Been done before was a bit of decent entertainment for a laugh 10 years ago. Second time was pitiful, third time they should just take a walk of a short pier with concrete shoes if they do it again. The game has past them by the only rejects who would watch this are mushrooms and they don't even watch their own contemporary players in numbers to make it worthwhile.

Darts came up on the final round on "Pointless" yesterday. The question was "name players who have defeated Phil Taylor in a world championship". Every single answer was pointless except Barney and Part.

Had it been "name players who defeated Bristow in a world championship" then there would have been more scoring answers I suspect. That's because the players of the 80s were more colourful than the post-split players, which is why the televised league they had a decade ago worked.

To echo points already made in this thread, the likes of Harrington, Part, Priestley etc just aren't going to draw the crowds. *Maybe* Mardle and Manley would at a stretch, but the latter is already a fairly forgotten figure.

I forgot Mardle as he was playing.

In a one-off tournament and a relatively short format it'd be okay, league system no.

Better to save the resources for proper tournaments for the current players.

Maybe they should do this as a knock out tournament in one or two weekends. But as we are saying the calendar is way too full now.

This is a man who enjoys watching Robert Thornton play. Let that sink in.

This might work as a one off event. But people won't tune in on a regular basis to watch Eric Bristow twisting his wrist around trying to throw darts. The standard will be noticably poor.

Isn't Bristow in the doghouse anyway?

If this ever happened, Taylor would be the centrepiece with Mardle, Manley, Part and perhaps Priestley being the chief supporting cast. Baxter and Terry Jenkins would probably end up in it as well. When you account for other also-rans, a 16 man field would be doable.

Taylor has endless exbos planned with half of these anyway so other than a tv angle you could see this next year if you were so inclined.
