That's almost certainly true as well, but I still find the difference remarkable, especially because it's just marketing-speak.

Zeyes wrote:Looks like at least Winmau has decided to give up on pretending that the Masters is a world-class event anymore. From the last two news releases:

http://www.winmau.com/news/3001/The_Rac ... ts_Climax/
The finest players from within the BDO/WDF system have been fighting month after month, travelling thousands of miles in their quest to pick up qualifying points at events all over the globe, and now the best 16 men and 8 women have earned automatic, seeded qualification for the 44th Winmau World Masters.
http://www.winmau.com/news/3002/FALLON_ ... D_MASTERS/
The Winmau World Masters is the longest-running darts major and will be played at the Bridlington Spa, from September 25th – 27th. Some of the best players in the world will compete for Winmau titles in Men’s Women’s, Disability, Boys and Girls events.
Compare that to last year:

http://www.winmau.com/news/2661/WINMAU_ ... D_MASTERS/
“The list of Winmau World Masters reads like a who’s who of the greatest players who have ever put their toe to the oche,” says Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, Ian Flack. “The event’s history and heritage mean that, after the World Championships, it’s the tournament every player wants to win.”
http://www.winmau.com/news/2650/WORLD_S ... D_MASTERS/
The world’s elite darts players will converge on the Lakeshite Country Club, the home of darts, next month for the 43rd Winmau World Masters to compete for the oldest major title in world darts.
That is interesting. In my view he is to be praised for sticking a pin in it.

Spending a couple of quid per pay "TV" viewer while streaming the whole thing for free online?

No way. No.

Its more the fact the last time they paid them to show darts, they just "forgot" to show the final :D

Oh and its not on Freeview anymore so viewership of the channel is down more than 80%. It was low enough already ffs.

Yeah it would be the most extreme case of the legend 'Beggars can't be choosers' ever witnessed.

FR should be considering the ethics of taking money off the sub-normal.
