That said, were it not for dartitis I think Bristow might have done the same to Taylor, as he was even better at the bullying and mind games
Bristow took him under his wing and taught him though. The chances of him beasting Taylor then seems unlikely.

Beasting, not beating.
I remember the 97 semi very well, Taylor was shaking like a shitting dog.

That's not what darts is though is it. It's combat, pressure points, confidence, anxiety, bullying, cunting. A prime Taylor today would be dedicating his whole life to dismantling MVG's brain. Calling him "Gurween" all the time, mimicking his celebrations, weirdo handshakes, hard mind games, walking off stage unscheduled for the lulz, having his loved ones killed, working the crowd against him, smirking interviews and god knows what else. He'd be making sure that he never had to face MVG's actual best by trying to break him beforehand, so that MVG became sickened by the prospect of sharing a stage with him.

We've seen glimpses of this over the last 4 years. He almost literally licked the tears off his face at the 2014 Matchplay final. Horrific.
Well considered post, agree with all if it.
Taylor always played the man, not the board.
and to what extent he'd have succeeded having giving MVG the full treatment for 20 years we'll never know.

Honestly I think MVG at the absolute peak of his known powers would not give a fuck about any of that and would just throw 118 right back at the cunt and win his share. He is a great player in every department imo but nevertheless his mentality is not perfect and once a seed of doubt creeps into his mind, it is a different game, and Taylor would have been merciless. We're not talking Anderson, Barney or Lewis here. Brilliant champions but kittens to a prime Taylor's Dracula.

As recently as last summer at the World Cup, MVG was flustered and having a bit of a tantrum against Lewis in the World Cup final. That is still part of MVG's make-up. Lewis was rubbing it in but a prime Taylor would not only have ripped his head off, he'd also have never let him forget the lesson.

The MVG mentality is exceptionally great I think and may still be improving. But Taylor would have subjected his weaknesses to the most ferocious mind games ever witnessed in darts.

and some people think Bristow anderson, jockey and lowe would not have been able to compete.
Remember the lowe taylor game in the matchplay around 2000 ?
if those old lads were in their prime today they would be at the top with mvg, taylor etc.

The problem is younger people who were kids or born after the split cannot grasp how good those old lads were.
With the internet nowdays people click on the stats and averages and make decisions based solely on that without factoring in the pressure, the equipment, both boards and darts, and other factors.

As someone who watched not only all of MVG's career , and all of taylors and what i could see of Bristows, Jockeys ,Andersons etc, my own personal opinion is that those old lads would have had no problem competing in todays style of game.

although the DRA might have made a fortune on Bristow and jockey

No doubt the greats of the past would have competed and won majors now. They had both the ability and bottle and on modern boards with modern darts would have been banging in top top performances
When you actually feel anger over a place like this it's time to get a life

Bristow would have thrived in the modern game. Anybody who says otherwise knows fuck all about the game.. Remember the lowe V Taylor game very well.
Their quarter final at the circus in mid 90s was even better.

Different eras different board different equipment

It's like comparing Pele to Messi

Difference in darts is Taylor is still around

The likes of Bristow Lowe jockie can't be compared imo completely different

always laugh and think about what george best said

He was asked by a reporter a few years back if ryan giggs was as good as him.
Best's reply was along the lines of..." absolutely he is as good as me, but you must remember I am 57 "...or words to that effect.

According to Taylor, that was Bristow's mistake. After hitting that 141, Bristow hit Taylor hard with the high five and it hurt. Taylor said it put his mind right straight away.

well taylor would say that......ignoring the fact if bristow did not get that 141 the game was over and bristow was chasing the game even after that

Didn't Taylor come out in a green Cape?
His red glitter top, wasn't it? When he started getting sponsored by Unicorn in April 1996, he wore the red and blue glitter tops for a while.

From the clip Gaz posted it looks like it.
I just have an image of him fighting through the tavern crowd in a green Cape at some point.

Anyroad I believe that Taylor of 15 years ago matched up with MvG now would have been amazing and Taylor would have come out on top. He would have upped his game to regularly beat MvG.
