When it comes to events that result in qualification or ranking then invitation should be on merit alone.
Wildcards into ranking events are a disaster. The BDO very effectively got Hankey into Lakeshite by giving him a wildcard to the World Darts Trophy last year. He won about 14 points for getting knocked out in Round 1, then scraped into Lakeshite through the rankings by a couple of points. It's 'jobs for the boys' but by a method that seems to be considered pretty much acceptable. It stinks.
its not just the World Darts CatasTrophy, but the Cider can masters has wildcards for a ranking event as well
I love the BDO. The frequency of fuck-ups is mind-blowing.
The one time where the PDC gets it wrong is where the Premier League finalists qualify for the Grand Slam, which is now a ranking event. Ok it's gruelling work getting to the PL final and they deserve rewards but still, on principle I don't think there should be a path from wildcard (PL) ---> ranking event (GSod).

More than likely this will be the last year they do, I bet JC is looking forward to seeing his hero Duzza playing in it this year.

I think Klaasen will just give his spot to Barney if the time comes. After his little kids adventure hes always kept his head low steering clear of any possible conflict with MVG so I doubt hes gonna make a big deal out of it now.

hardly, besides the publicity and honor of playing for his country, his sponsors pressing him to play for their benefit , as well as the financial rewards, plus the possibility of a grand slam spot, which is a ranking comps now should he be part of the winning team, I would be very surprised he would turn it down should he make the selection process.
I would tell MVG to accept it or he can fuck off

Klaassen has been pretty succesfull in these ranking events recently. It is quite likely that he will eventually overtake Barney.

Michael told me that he don't have to play at the World Cup with Jelle and that he will play with Raymond.

If this happens it's way out of line if Barney isn't there on merit. MvG should withdraw

Maybe Jelle doesn't particularly want to play with Michael either. Maybe he would think it's for the best.

exactly, his position even as #1 does not give him the right to dictate
