As I said many times GSoD could claim to be the Major of all majors as finalists and world semi finalists qualify via achievement. Lakeside semi finalists do diminish the event though, Boy George!
The fact that the CLOD runner up from 2012 is in is a bit silly.

The seedings are a disgrace as well. No clear critieria means that they can put in who they want wherever they want.

Seedings should go a bit like this:

Tournaments ranked in order of priority: PDC WC, BDO WC, GSOD, Matchplay, Grand Prix, PL, UK Open, Players Champ, Euro Champs, PDC Masters, CLOD, World Cup

Champions within the last year (PDC WC first, BDO WC 2nd etc.)
Runners-up within the last year
Semi finalists within last year
Champions of 2012-13
Runners up of 2012-13
SFs of 2012-13
World Champ winners from 2010-12
Euro Tour winners
Youth winner
Youth runner up
Wild cards

why is it silly that the CLoD runner is in ?
The CLoD runner up is a top players as only the top players enter the CLoD, in fact CLod players are a better standard than say World Cup jobbers like ronny huybrechts, Barrie Bates etc.

As for seedings, who cares, its not like its a ranking comp is it where rules are set in stone ?

The faster people realize the most basic fact the better, that the pdc can do whatever they like, invite who they like , its their comp, their rules, and invitational and non ranking.

Sick to the fucking eyeballs od retarded cunts whining how martin phillips is not in for winning the bdo masters, or how this jobber and that jobber from the bdo should be invited,
The PDC can do what they like, they do not owe the bdo players a living.

Why dont the bdo run their own if they dont like it or better still boycott the GSoD like a close family would, but that wont happen, greedy vulture cunts who knock the PDC but quick to take the PDC coin.
Phillips GSOD Record.
Played 10.
Won 3. (lewis, stompe and vvdV).
Lost 7.

2 groups stage exits and 1 last 16.

The GSoD is just about a major, although I don't like the way the criteria changes every year. But to this date if you reach the final of the Matchplay, Grand Prix, UK Open, Euros, etc, or the semi-finals of the respective world champs, then you are definitely in.

The PL seems to have guarantees for only 4 players. 6 wildcards is too many, although it probably makes for a better comp if they could be a little more imaginative with them.

The Unibet Masters has only the top 16 PDC players in it. As I've said, the same goes for the snooker masters. It's exactly the same principle and it's a big deal to win a tournament where only the top players (plus one or two on the slide) are there. Wade's achievement in beating Lewis and Taylor back to back is possibly the best he's ever done. And then to come back against King by winning 9 out of the final 10 legs is astonishing. Dolan is no mug either.

Look at the some of the crap that fills the early rounds of the UK Open or even Ally Pally.

Players Champ Finals also not a "major" apparently.
Not at all. I've explained this on a few forums many times. When you have a tournament which can theoretically be without the world champion, without the defending champion and without the world #1 (maybe), then how is it a major?

What it is doing is rewarding players who freeze like a rabbit in the headlights on TV for what they did on the floor. But as we've seen in so many cases, these are two completely different environments to play in! Why not just have it as a floor tournament for the best floor players of the year?

This is the worst PDC tournament on the calendar IMO. When you had Whitlock, Barney and Webster all missing the 2010 PC Finals (3 of the 4 world championship semi-finalists), then the tournament is seriously devalued. But never fear, Jamie Caven is here! As were Steve Hine, Alan Tabern and Tony Eccles!

Even more absurd was Lewis missing out when he was the current world champion. That's pure idiocy on the organisers part, and if I were a sponsor I'd wonder where the hell the top players are.

I like the players championship final.
It has a purpose to reward those who thrive on the floor.
If lewis misses out then fuck the fat cunt for not turning up to these events, fuck headshaker for not playing enough comps to qualify, those players that qualified earned their place and more than deserve it.

Why should some cunt like lewis expect to be left in, no fuck him and all the others.
Now whether a comp with lazy primma donna players is a major is a separate argument, personally I see the pc finals, like the european champs, unibet masters and clod etc as second tier events, big comps, better than anything in the bdo but not in the elite line like the worlds, matchplay uk open and grand prix.

The GSoD when it becomes ranking can become the 5th major.
The world cup, euro tours and floors comps then are third tier events , along with these singapore dubai etc world series.

Ask yourself this, if all prizefunds were the same, what comps would you want to win, bragging rights, ego, personal achievement etc.

If the 4 majors i mentioned and the grand slam are not the top 5 then I would be surprised.

Being directly before the Worlds does the Players Champs no favours in terms of prestige.

Feels a bit like the par three contest before the Masters.

With that being said it should be fairly easy for a top player to get into it.

32 Pro Tour events (18 PCs, 6 UK Open qualies and 8 Euro events) to get slightly less than £20,000.

Could get that with one Euro Tour win and fuck all else.

Even the so called stage players get 8 tournaments in front of a crowd.

By your logic the UK Open isn't a major because if a top player doesn't perform in the 6 qualifying events he won't be there.

Mawson barely got in the year after he was the runner up.

As for the Players I'm a fan of the wacky seedings. The strange draws lend themselves to new matches, upsets and different people in the later stages.

are you really that retarded ?

You basically answered your own question.
If Lewis for example cannot get into the players champs finals its Lewis's fault, you admitted yourself he has plenty opportunities, if he cannot qualify why should the comp be deemed any less ?
That said I never said it was a major anyway....I suggest you actually read my posts.

As for the UK Open thats a completely different kettle of fish, for starters even a pdc who might be suspended by the DRA can get in to the uk open qualifiers, then win qualifiers on the thursdays night and then play early rounds and have up to 4 games played before the so called big boys enter, and still go on to win the comp...and yes it has been done, by Wade one year where he played qualifiers and early rounds playing a total of 10 games I think by the time he won it.

point is unlike say lewis in the pc finals where he could miss out because of sheer laziness, bad form or whatever, in the uk open you stiill have a chance with the thursday night qualifiers and if you are any way good enough you will qualify.

Was talking to MT there. Didn't want to quote his post because mine was long enough as is.

Honestly whatever level the governing body of a sport determine a tournament to be at is the only thing you can take at face value in these discussions.

If the PGA Tour wanted to add a 5th major in China then there'd be 5 majors.

If the ATP Tour decided that Wimbledon was no longer a Grand Slam there would be three Grand Slams.

As such if the PDC add a tournament and unambiguously call it a major then it's a major.

I was expecting Chizzyfan to list Chizzy as the top pundit there.

Looking at the averages for most of the late 90s to early 00s the BDO WCs had higher averages than the PDC, albeit the PDC had the undisputed number one throughout that time.

The usual piranha routine from JC there.

The career renaissance of Keith Deller tells you all you need to know about the standard of early WDCs.

really like how when this early wdc was up and running players like spineless who could not even qualify for lakeshite and NEVER WON A SINGLE DARTS COMPETITION OF NOTE IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER,prior to the split suddenly stated to qualify, get in the england team

John part an unknown winning a world title against bobby george with a broken back,

Or maybe you mean when john boy walton won a world title.
Am sure all those years where neils de ruiter, pecker woods and ronnie sharp were top players they were the real best in the world

Never claimed they were.

You've piqued my interest so here is a list of number of games at both World Championships where both players had a 90 plus average.

Starting from the start. For ease of following the WDC will be referred to as the PDC.

Using darts database for the stats.

1994
PDC: 4 (Priestley/Wilson, Taylor/Anderson, Taylor/Brown, Taylor/Priestley)
BDO: 0

1995
PDC: 1 (Taylor/Lowe)
BDO: 7 (Barney/Wallace, Monk/Thynne, Barney/Monk, Barney/Adams, Barney/Burnett, Fordham/Williams, Adams/Gregory)

1996
PDC: 2 (Priestly/Warriner, Taylor/Priestley)
BDO: 5 (Beaton/Stompe, Clark/Barney, Beaton/Adams, Burnett/Baxter, Fordham/Beaton)

1997
PDC: 3 (Priestley/Harrington, Priestley/Evison, Taylor/Priestley)
BDO: 8 (Carter/Adams, Wallace/Taylor, Barney/Wallace, King/Baxter, King/Scholten, Wallace/Williams, Wallace/King, Wallace/James)

1998
PDC: 2 (Taylor/Harrington, Taylor/Priestley)
BDO: 10 (King/Clark, Widdows/Adams, Burnett/Painter, Monk/Widdows, Hankey/King, Fordham/Barney, Barney/Beaton, Hankey/Monk, Barney/Monk, Barney/Burnett)

1999
PDC: 6 (Burgess/Harrington, Taylor/Lowe, Manley/Smith, Manley/Burgess, Taylor/Warriner, Taylor/Manley)
BDO: 11 (Wallace/Cunningham, Barney/Paffrey, Hankey/Carter, Mason/Davies, Adams/Gregory, Painter/Widdows, Baxter/Burnett, Fordham/King, Mason/Adams, Barney/Mason, Barney/Baxter)

2000:
PDC: 5 (Lowe/Harrington, Smith/Part, Taylor/Warriner, Priestley/Manley, Taylor/Priestley)
BDO: 11 (Barney/Mason, Beaton/Hunt, Coote/Adams, King/Fitton, Fordham/Beaton, Painter/Widdows, Monk/Davies, Mason/Fordham, Baxter/Monk, Hankey/Mason, Baxter/Stompe)

2001
PDC: 6 (Scholten/Burgess, Harrington/Anderson, Deller/Burnett, Taylor/Fitton, Part/Harrington, Taylor/Part)
BDO: 16 (Walton/Davies, King/Mason, Baxter/Crooks, Fordham/David, Walton/King, Pusa/Porter, Baxter/Adams, Barney/Beaton, Hankey/Hinkley, Painter/Clark, Mardle/Baxter, Hankey/Barney, Fordham/Painter, Walton/Mardle, Hankey/Fordham, Walton/Hankey)

2002
PDC: 8 (Lloyd/Roy, Baxter/Smith, Part/Beaton, Taylor/Burgess, Lloyd/Burnett. Manley/Baxter, Taylor/Part, Taylor/Manley)
BDO: 10 (Barney/George, Monk/Walton, Clarys/Barney, Adams/Coote, Taylor/Stompe, Monk/Mardle, Barney/King, Adams/Jones, David/Taylor, David/Adams)

From 2003 on the PDC had more matches than the BDO. Until that point at every world champs both organisations had 31 games.

The BDO won the average-ometer 8 years on the spin.

In that time both players averaged over 90 78 times.
Conversely in the PDC both players averaged over 90 only 37 times.

As such for the decade following the split I can say without a shadow of doubt that the BDO had the stronger standard.

For purposes of completeness I'll keep going until the PDC wins. I'll only count from the last 32 on in the PDC for fairness.

2003
PDC: 7 (Mardle/Evison, Taylor/Mardle, Smith/Ovens, Mason/Lloyd, Part/Harvey, Taylor/Smith, Part/Taylor)
BDO: 8 (Adams/Stompe, Anderson/Fordham, Monk/O'Shea, Davies/David, Barney/Clarys, King/Barney, Davies/Anderson, Barney/Davies)

2004
PDC: 7 (Warriner/Lowe, Dudbridge/Part, Manley/Deller, Painter/Baxter, Taylor/Warriner, Taylor/Mardle, Taylor/Painter)
BDO: 10 (Davies/Adams, O'Shea/Robson, Davies/Duke, Barney/Walton, Fordham/Fitton, O'Shea/Hankey, King/Davies, Fordham/Barney, King/O'Shea, Fordham/King)

2005
PDC: 9 (Baxter/Jenkins, Lloyd/Mason, Dudbridge/Part, Taylor/Priestley, Anderson/Hamilton, Taylor/Painter, Dudbridge/Mardle, Taylor/Anderson, Taylor/Dudbridge)
BDO: 7 (Adams/Richardson, Barney/Veitch, Van der Voort/Eccles, Hankey/Wagner, Adams/Hankey, Barney/Fitton, Barney/Adams)

So after 10 straight defeats the PDC finally pick up a win.

The purpose of this exercise was to prove that the BDO was the stronger organisation following the split. Aside from the awkward first year this has been proven definitively.

I didn't expect it to be quite so dominant but you can't argue with 78-37.
