kickstarter DartsEye - automatic score recognition by phone
Dear forum members, I have had permission from M H to post this message.
I would to inform you all about a kickstarter project called DartsEye from the organization Online Darts Community. DartsEye introduces a darting revolution by using the camera of the phone to automatically keep track of the thrown dart scores and let users play online in real time against each other.
DartsEye can best be described as a personal referee for every dart player. Every score thrown by the player will automatically be noticed by DartsEye and processed in a detailed statistical database allowing the player to watch his progress. To help players improving their darting skills DartsEye will have several training capabilities to improve specific throws on the singles, doubles or triples. Achievements will be present in DartsEye as well and can be rewarded to players when they managed to throw a difficult score with as ultimate achievement the nine darter.
For the first time in history DartsEye will allow players to play online real time matches on their phone. Online matches can be limited to random 1 against 1 matches, but joining tournaments or even leagues will be possible as well. The online performance of players will be tracked and rewarded with points which enables a diversity of rankings, including the world ranking.
Online Darts Community has the ambition to let DartsEye be the absolute dream application for every dart player in the world and to let every one experience the feeling how it would be to play on stage in a TV environment. To fulfill this ambition the development of DartsEye will continue after the features mentioned in the kickstarter have been developed. Features like letting the phone pronouncing the scores, an audience that reacts to the performance of the player, personalizing and connecting of statistics to a full featured website and automatically recording of every throw to share your most beautiful scores on Youtube.
The kickstarter will run from 8 October 2014 to 8 November 2014 and can be found here People that will back this kickstarter will be rewarded based on the amount of their pledge. An invitation to the private beta program is among these rewards.

It is actually not only a theory anymore. We have created a POC and without any real optimization the actual results where pretty impresive. The most important thing however will be for the user to follow the onscreen instructions, the distance and angle to the dartboard are very important in orde to have accurate results. So before you can actually start playing the app will first tell you if everything is OK to start playing and if it is not OK the app will instruct the user what to change in order to work.Cameron wrote:Good idea in theory. You don't? I must say I strongley disagree with you, the lazier the betterTheArrow wrote:I don't think darts players need to get any more lazy.

But in all fairness this app enables the same treatment as the pro's have during a match... a personal dart referee. Looking back at your results and view how you are performing a nice thing.
