Only going from what was reported here but it looked like a very divisive affair and split communities apart. Salmond made promises he or any successor could keep if they got a yes vote and it would have ended up with the UK bailing them out again.

Wasn't it failed crops that lead to the union in the first place?

A genuine question, what makes Scotland so important to the union?

Way I see it.

THE SCOTTISH ARE WEAK BRAINWASHED IDIOTS FOR THE MOST PART.

As a republic myself, a person who like most irish people who despise the monarchy and all that it stands for, who was reared on stories from my father and grandfather about Ireland and its fight for independence, the suffering involved in achieving what they have so far, here was a chance for the celtic people of Scotland to gain what took the lives of thousands of brave scots in the past.

Here was a chance to get indepence without a single drop of blood spilled, simply by marking a mark on a ballot, and the chicken shit brainwashed fuckers failed to do so.
I do not believe this is the end and this will rear its head again.
The scots have the oil and gas fields, and the English would have you believe its all doom and gloom if Scotland left the Union but they would say that to scare people, you only need look at the neo nazi style right wing extremists who celebrate the union with England to know the mentality and simple mindedness of those who chose to remain part of the UK.

In the end its not my problem and thats an issue for the scots, but they had a chance to break free without any need for killing deaths or martyrs , if only so many other countries the UK raped murdered and pillaged had the same opportunity to leave as easy then maybe the UK would not be viewed as a bunch of murderers and lap dog cunts to the yanks they are seen as.

I'm sure the people in Portsmouth would be delighted if it relocated there, think of the jobs it would create!

It's not that simple mate. 400 years back the English saw an advantage in a union with you lot, that advantage must still exist

The thing is too, the Americans like the NW's on the Clyde because of its location in the North Atlantic as source of defence for the West.

If we did get independence does anyone think Salmond would have told the Americans to fuck off when we need international financial backing?

I listened to Salmond and his cronies many times, they spouted nothing more than bullshit and jingoistic crap

I would have voted yes if I felt I was going to be financially better off. I'm not patriotic. I heard nothing that suggested that Scotland would be a financially better off place as a result of independence.

The Yes campaign was full of buzzwords and meaningless phrases such as "fairer society". Everyone wants a fairer society and more jobs and so on, but if it was as easy as declaring national independence to achieve those things everywhere would be doing it including other the areas of the UK.

I appreciate all your opinions.

If in 5-10 years time and say heaven forbid that you acquire a serious illness and require an operation but can't afford the 20k on the privatised NHS, will it have been worth it?

If anyone privatises the Scottish NHS it will be the Scottish Parliament who have full control of it
