Commentators
As Sid Waddell has proved time and again, poort commentary can ruin a game. So what makes a good commentator and what's needed for a good commentary on a game? Does it vary depending on the sport? Does having someone who's played the sport in the booth with someone else make a difference?
And who's your contender for the greatest commentator/commentary team ever?

Re: Commentators
When the commentator starts to think they are as big as the event they are commentating on and actually take away from whats going on rather than adding to it then they should be removed.
The sport should always remain the main meal, the commentators are merely the garnish and condiments to make it taste slightly better.
Respect what your commentating on and know your role.

Richie Benaud was brilliant when the BBC covered cricket

The old Test Match Special team on Radio 4 in the seventies and eighties will probably never be surpassed

Re: Commentators
they dont make really any difference to me in general.Bar the odd one that spouts the usual shit it dont bother me who is doing it it as long as its not manic, and is coherent and speaks english.
I was watching the taylor/barney 2007 match on you tube but with dutch commentary,....then you realise how much better english commentary is.
But at the end of the day I dont care if its in some god forsaken language from a shithole anywhere in the world I dont care as long as I get to watch darts
