Wednesday 7th May 1986.

The European Cup final live on ITV at 7.05pm: Barcelona v Steaua Bucharest in Seville. Terry Venables is Barca manager.

Steaua Bucharest win 2-0 on penalties somehow. The match had finished 0-0 after extra time.

This was the first of the 5-season ban of English clubs from European competitions after the Heysel Stadium disaster of the previous year's final.

Let's watch a 110 year-old film. Alice in Wonderland, 1915.

The book had been published in 1865. The character of Alice is allegedly based on Lewis Carroll's friend(?) Alice Liddell, who was still alive when this film was released.

In the film, Alice is played by Viola Savoy, who lived until 1987.

It isn't, but that would be good to research.

Here's a short film which is much older. Le Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon) - 1902. The weird man-faced moon is pretty famous.

Attempting to take a bite out of Jonathan are Stars in their Eyes and A Touch of Frost on ITV.

Sunday 13th May 2007.

18 years ago today. The first episode of Gavin and Stacey airs on BBC Three.

It will run for 22 episodes, ending with a 90-minute special on Christmas Day 2024. The popularity of its first two series had it switch from BBC3 to BBC1 for the rest of its run.

You'll flip. The 7-day viewing figures for that Gavin & Stacey finale on Christmas Day were obscene.

Watched by 19.3 million, it is the UK’s most-watched scripted show across all broadcasters and streamers since current records began in 2002.
