Genuine thread.
Watching Residence I'm inspired by the birding theme.
What were your most memorable twitches?
Let's not make the mistake of the goals thread. You can post multiple stories here.

I see many many ducks almost every day. I've sent some of you duck pics.
I see a heron, rarely. A cormorant, gross. A Canadian goose famously hissed at me when I was minding my own business. Tell the missus not to have an egg so close to the path, fuckwit.
It's been a while but the most pleasing bird I see is a kingfisher. A flash of bright blue as it wibbles along over the canal.

I was a bit of a birder as a kid and the AA Book of birds was my bible.
They described the kingfisher similarly so you must have some birding blood.
"A flash of sapphire" I think was the opening sentence on that page.

Very nice.
I can't get close enough to get a front view of it, or any decent view at all really. There's a gent who walks the canal path with a very fancy camera around his neck and he shows me photos he's taken of various things he sees there. He has loads of fantastic photos of the kingfisher from all angles.

Yeah you have to be really patient to get photos of the kingy. They don't hang about for long.

Used to get armies of starlings and sparrows in the garden but it's just pigeons now

Earlier this year had a Hoopoe hanging around outside the office.
Became quite the celebrity. Spotted in various locations in the city for a few weeks. Made the front page of the local rag.
