Does anybody have an idea why the Irish Classic is +207 but the Open is -130? Seems an odd change.

Have you got all the numbers, is there a plus in general entries? Last year you also had the financial numbers for the WDF (players levy/tournament fees), in case you have those, is it growing again? It takes a lot of players to make up for the loss of all those gold tournaments. This year will see Canada added, but Germany got canceld and Britain (meant to be gold for50th anniversary or something) moved to silver because they collided with an other tournament (ADC I think). It amazes me that Germany hasn't got any senior tournament now.

I wonder if they ever going to make the WM an open event. Would probably benefit the number of the World Open and Lakeside qualifiers participants as well, but might fuck over other opens. Or maybe something like a minimum of tournaments played to be able to play in it, instead of winning/reaching semi-finals tournaments. That way they can also up the administrative feeentry fee. Although I think they need to play more hours to drop a day to have real effect. Not sure if I like it, but I can see them doing something like that to generate money.

No it needs some achievement to it. Although Andrew Sinclair got an invite to it and he has 50 averages

Yeah I like traditions, but seeing how they cut the prize money for Lakeside, and them knowing that that might fuck up players motivation to play the tour the next year, I can imagine that they need money (or WDF Promotions just didn't want to pay more). With the high entry fees of the World Open and Qualifier there probably is some incentive to get as many people in as possible to earn some money. But after dropping sets it would be another loss of tradition, and it would be more difficult to claim that they have the oldest major. Will be interesting to see if there is a WM and what the prize money of Lakeside is this year

I'll add the overall entry numbers and also prize money by region over the weekend.

It shows up like that because the daft Hungarian bigot uses emojis that aren't supported by the site.

Ok, overall entry numbers and income from WDF tournaments, compared with 2023 (a few tournaments are estimates, in turns of numbers, and so figures are only approximate):

There were 119 WDF ranking events, excluding the World Championships, in 2024 (2 less for women, an Australian weekend didn't get enough/any entries). This compares with 102 in 2023. Most of the growth in numbers is due to the increased number of tournaments, with some having expected high entries (eg Las Vegas Classic, World Masters, World Open).

Entries:

Men (includes World Masters):
23816 (19978) +19%

Women (includes World Masters):
6005 (4733) +27%

Of the 85 events for men which were held in both 2023 and 2024, the increase is 1036. 70% of this increase comes from the Dutch Open alone (+717), so overall, excluding this great event, the picture is fairly flat. For women, the increase is 142 overall, so again, flat to all intents and purposes. The Welsh events suffered from the change to England from Prestatyn, and some events in the States, New Zealand and Mongolia did well. The England events are a positive, as they didn't happen in 2023, but the actual numbers were really poor.

WDF Entry/Tournament money (excludes World Masters and World Championships) - healthy growth in income overall, but from such a low base the actual figures are never going to look impressive:

Again, compared with 2023:

WDF Player Levy ($2 per person):
Men - $46,998 ($39,956)
Women - $11,616 ($9,466)

Tournament Levy:
$36,850 ($31,150)

Total Income:
$95,464 ($80,572) +18%

Nice, thanks!

Nice numbers overall, not big money but atleast there is a healthy growt. English darts is a bit of an odd one. Not an Englishmen at the QF of the Lakeside (but 5 in the PDC). They probably have to many local/close options in CT, DT, WT, Modus, Seniors and ADC. Hopefully English WDF darts can grow again, and hopefully we will see that the Germans get tournaments as well. Dutch Open will be growing again big, but I am not sure if its paying the players levy: according to the rules they have to state it that they are keeping 2$ for the WDF (which they don't state) and they were also the ones who just stopped with BDO points when they introduced players levies, although at that moment the DO already had accepties entries so that was a bit fucked up. If they don't pay up, and don't pay a tournament levy, you could deduct about 10% of the total income...
