Been nowhere all year, but he's shot ahead of plenty of players who would have been expected to outperform him, it's been a good few weeks for Griffin

The high prize money is good for the event itself, first and second round is dramatic because it can make or break your year. Still unfair in the wider context though
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

It’s not as if first or second round money catapults complete jobbers into the top 64, this will help Griffin but he’ll still need a big year next year (either that or winning a few more games here)

No but he has more than half of his prize money from just this one win and it's not even the proper first round beating a seed but a glorified prelim game.

£15k, if you haven’t done much on tour, is not make or break, if he does go further and makes serious inroads towards keeping his card, you’d have to say fair play, you have to reward the bottle to win games on the big stage too

How many first year tour card holders made the quarters at Ally Pally on debut? Duzza I’m pretty sure, Joycey too?

That would take some research. Darius is a possibility too.
