Question about the PDC World Championship

Post by oche balboa » Fri Oct 25, 2024 10:14 am

So just a fun question

With Matt Porter hinting recently that the PDC World Championship field will be expanded from 96 to 128 players

My question is

What criteria would you use to get the extra 32 players? More from the Dev Tour, Would America have more?

Interested in your thoughts

Has to be a lot to the tourcard holders, as for some (especially those 50+) its more attractive to not have a tour card. If there is a bigger chance of the 7.5k or so players might prefer a tour card. Probably some more Asians and other countries and women.

8-10 internationals
2 women
18-20 tour cardholders
2 wildcards, although im not sure if the gambling sponsor likes wildcards

Problem with having more internationals, it makes it again more attractive to not have a tour card, as you are not allowed to qualify via the national route after the first year of having a card.

Not sure from which number on the ranking Porter said they would be able to earn a living within a couple of year, but I could see the PDC just giving all the new spots to the tour card holders, as that will be a massive step into earning a living thru darts. 7.5k (although it probably is less with 128 players) plus sponsors who might pay extra because you are on tv/getting sponsers.. will do a lot. Plus there is a chance on more.

Keep it simple and balanced. 16 Pro Tour and 16 International. I will expand on this later.

I still don't think it needs to expand yet. Gonna end up with a lot a pointless 1 sided games.

This, way too early on a competitive standing but they’ll sell out so it makes sense from a financial perspective
