Factorial is function that takes a positive whole number and multipies it by every whole number below it down to 1.

Eg 8! = 8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1 = 40320

Comes up a lot when thinking about combinations and probibilities.

Nice.
It was a school thing. Was the highest factorial your standard calculator could handle always looked like 1.711224524×10⁹⁸

Answer is √π / 2 by the way. I was looking for (1/2) factorial (with the naughty definition).

+1 for the Maths but not mechanics.

Got in the top 9% of the state for Maths in my final year, and most of what Emu posted went straight over my head.

Unless you really enjoy maths stats etc it doesn't really become useful in 90% of jobs in life.
It baffles me why so much in depth maths is studied in schools, colleges. Just teach them the basics and well.
As a lot of kids get put off by algebra etc which has no use.

Plus put more focus on how to apply basic maths to real life, business.
How to manage your personal finances, make profit if you run a business.

Seen so many businesses fail due to bad basic accounting.
