I remember that Matchplay well.

- Wade's brilliant doubling in the semi final against Lewis.

- Lewis beating Barney.

- Jenks beating Taylor and the latter mulling over whether his time had past.

+1

Wade broke Lewis with endless nasty checkouts. Taylor looked even more dazed as Jenks surged past him without a care in the world. That was one of my favourite nights of darts ever. The final was crap but had a great outcome.

After about 3 hours Jamie Harvey illogically beats Scholten in 2004.

I don't seethe over darts.

But I was greatly disappointed in the result of that final.

Enjoyable game though.

It’s a shame he will never win a world title. Certainly should have.

Happiness is the most important thing, hopefully he stays mentally right and wins a few more majors at least.

Wade would have also won a lot more Matchplay events if his peak didn't crossover with a Taylor boom period [late 2000s] and a period where Taylor had cooled off a bit but was still formidable [early 2010s]

Taylor beat Wade in the finals of the 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2012 Matchplay events and the semi final of the 2013 version. Wade finally beat Taylor in the semi-final of the 2015 version, but then came up against peak MVG in the final.

How many worlds would Priestley have in a taylorless world?

96-98 and 2000 would have all been very winnable for Priestley with no Taylor to stop him.

Harrington could have well have won in 1995 and beaten Priestley in 1998.

Warriner would have had a decent chance in 1999 and 2000 also.
