Could go on until after midnight if it goes the distance which is ridiculously late. Completely avoidable if they had started the first match at 18.00 - 19.00

Shame Wade's pomp was in an era where the bullseye didn't readily fit about half a dozen darts in it, then.

I don't have an issue with the ridiculous doubles and trebles on modern boards. The game is essentially unified again so all players are playing on the same kit (or have the chance to), so it isn't that anyone is unfairly disadvantaged.

The issue is with the historical comparisons. Mardle knows full well the differences between today's boards and those used even fifteen years back but his employer has a narrative to run so he'll say what he needs to say to run it. Darts had a lot of casual fans, so they'll hear that and understand it to mean what Mardle and Sky want them to understand it to mean.

Rout would never say the boards are different sizes. They wouldn’t fit in the surrounds.

Especially when there's no day off tomorrow. Adrian Lewis in 2012, after the infamous draft gate semi final with James Wade, the match finished close to 1am, Lewis had to do his press conferences and then a drug test. He didn't get into bed until around 5:30am and he had to play the final against Andy Hamilton the following evening. The final wasn't good as a spectacle, with Hamilton himself having beaten Whitlock 6-5 in an epic.

Edgar found that PDC boards from even 20 years ago were 7.5% smaller than now. How much does that influence averages? Dunno, but it clearly means that's comparing averages now to back then is not like for like.

Or it could be simply that Wade has never been an exceptionally high scorer and he also generally underachieved in World Championships
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.
